Title: Okuma makiera 20
Post by: jmbnv on February 05, 2016, 07:00:27 PM
Is a Okuma makiera 20 adequate to fish a 135 pound outfit with a short top shot?

I have a Mak 20 and 30.  Great reels!  I fish 100 spectra, 100 mono on the 20, and 135 spectra with 100 mono on the 30.  I use them for sardine rigs, fly lining.  They both perform well with great free spool and solid drag systems.

The Makaira 20 is more than enough reel for 130# braid and/or topshot, 37 pounds at strike and 55 pounds at full, only question would be size of quarry you are going after, and if you need more line capacity than go with a larger size.

The MK16 and up are all legit cow reels, 200-300# tuna on the MK16 is no problem,
