I saw on a catfishing message board a man was thinking about buying this vintage reel on a vintage rod for $17. Has anyone had any experience with these?

Very similar to Abus of that era.

I'll take a whole pallet load at $17 per. My dad's favorite reel. Typical Quick engineering.
