IMO, a design flaw in the tuff, heavy 302, is the bail wire and the attachment section for the line roller. Too flimsy. I had to get a new bail from Fred for mine. If the reel gets dropped for example, there's good chance the bail will get tweaked.
The original 302's had a 1/2 bail, which mighta been better, but I never see them for sale.
Try bending it back very carefully, being delicate with any welded areas.

You need 3 parts for the reel ,It's will be close to price of another reel .I have a 302 that have not use in last 30 years ( or more )

Drag start up very light G-fish .The 2 bearings compress a heavy spring help smooth drag ,more consistent  without jerking

Hi all,

Picked up a swap meet 302 needing a few parts. Fred Oakes would be the go to guy but he's on a East coast travel trip. Anyone else have some available parts to use? Looking for the tiny key (PN 81404) the Bail bumper ( 81397) and Bail wire (81390)

My bail wire doesn't open enough to let the line out...think it is bent wrong. Can these be tweaked easily or should it be replaced?

Interesting, what is the benefit of having bearings there? Just to smooth out the drag somewhat?

It'ed be nice to get some braid on a spool(the one that the braid comes on when sold)possibly for backing, but yeah, de-lined on the reel spool so's you can check. eBay sellers don't hide flaws!

Hi Steve,

Here's the thread I refer to.

https://alantani.com/index.php/topic,36091.0.html

It has some really good tips on what solution to use for what kind of part and mentions the coffee filter.

Very interesting. Thanks for the pictures q.t. So, it works more powerfully than the BG, how is the "start-up"(possible stickiness when first pulling drag)? I'd imagine close to zero cause of the ball bearings.

Yep, hopefully I can make it last a little longer and see small parts in the jars I use. A few times when putting a reel back together I've had to go back to the jar and fish out a small part that I missed because my fluid is dirty.

Thanks,

Steve

Quote from: reelynew on Today at 05:19:30 AMI think Fred mentioned in a post he uses coffee filters for that purpose. That might get you a few extra cycles.

That sounds cheaper than what I was going to use. I'll give that a try first.

Thanks,

Steve
