Title: Rod to fit Mitchell 308 vintage reel
Post by: frankm13 on March 31, 2018, 03:01:34 AM
Hello. I recently restored a vintage Mitchell 308. I went to put it on a rod and the reel foot is too thick to fit the 5 spinning rods I have. Do I need to buy "older" rods? I've seen some people grind the foot down, but I hate to do that. I want to keep it original. What rods are other people using for their 308's. Thanks in advance for the help!

Mine will fit the 5-1/2' Berkley Cherrywood rod, the 5' Ugly Stik Lite Pro, the 6-1/2' St Croix Premier ultralight, the Shakespeare Micro Series rods, and also the Eagle Claw Featherlight rods.

Mine fit on an Eagle Claw Featherlight without any modification...it was tight but it fits. 8)

A lot of rod manufacturers still make ultra light rods with Tennessee grips & slip rings. You could try one of those, as they will work.

For sure, don't grind the foot.
