Title: First Gen Handle Length for 116
Post by: SeaDragon on November 09, 2019, 01:32:14 AM
How long is the blade on a first Gen non-numbered handle for a 116A or 116? Thanks.

Hi Seadragon,
Mine measure 6 1/4 inches -16 cms.
Good luck with your search. Any chance of photos?

Thank you Martin, my understanding is that the hole for the sleeve is smaller because the sleeve is smaller than later ones. Is this true as well?

Hi Seadragon,

I have just measured a 1939 12/0 handle at .427 inches/10.86mm - and a numbered post 1950 counter balanced handle 24-116 and they are both the same(to my eye!) I put the numbered handle on the '39 sleeve and no worries - a good fit.
My numbered, 24-116 handle is a spare, but it would look wrong on a first gen reel - Pm me if you are interested.

Martin,
My handles (first gen pencil handle and late 40's non numbered) are also 6 1/4" in length.
This is interesting, (while I will have to go back and check as it's been a while) I remember the sleeve of my late '37 has a smaller gear sleeve where just a standard counter balanced (non numbered) wouldn't fit properly??
Let me check mine, but my little guy is headed home now so stay tuned.
