Title: Thanks to Newell Nut
Post by: Rancanfish on October 15, 2016, 02:34:23 PM
I had an opportunity come up yesterday to purchase two Newells.  Not knowing anything about them, I reached out to Dwight (Newell Nut). He graciously gave me the info needed quickly to make an informed buy.
As it turned out, they are in very good condition, almost mint save for some marks on the top edges. And it turns out I bought them for 1/2 of their value.  As a bonus, a 113H with Newell bars and base was included. I was told it was a Yellowtail Special, but it is the same width as stock.
I have always said I don't get the attraction, but was blown away by the weight or rather the lack of weight. The 220 is a feather compared to a 146 Squidder.  I'm going to open them up just to see what's inside. (Don't worry Dwight, I'll be gentle).
So, anyway a big thanks to Dwight, who will get first dibs if and when these move on. Here they are...doubleclick the pics to make them vertical, darn.

Good move Randy, those are in excellent shape.
I also went directly to Dwight and let him get me a 220. I believe he built this one from parts. I can just imagine the stash he must have  :)
I added a couple of parts to it. Love these little reels.

Can't go wrong with the "  Newell Nut" :)

Nice find!  I will second the Newell Nut resource!  He has educated me on Newell's beyond my expectations.  He is also a hell of a fisherman and rod builder!  Kudos Newell Nut!

Andy

Sal love that handle/knob/star combo.

Boy, isn't that the truth! Last year Dwight graciously allowed me to purchase this beautiful MIB 332 from that stash:

Not only that, he then built me the best rod I've ever owned:

Sal's 100% right: You CANNOT go wrong with the "Newell Nut"!!    (http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah207/ladyaialaAiala/Girl%20smiley_zpsmjawqsdk.gif)

Yes, Dwight deserves his awesome rep.
I only bought these as a flip as most of you know.  I am trying to raise funds for my wife's new pup.  So as much as I would be proud to have these in my collection, they will be moving on to enable me in the future to do doggie doo clean up on the lawn again.  ;D
I do get to play with them temporarily.  I think it would be fun to catch a salmon on either reel.

Nice find. If Dwight wants to pass on them, I'd be interested (as I need another reel like I need another hole in my head).

I would also be interested Randy, especially on that 220, just give me a shot at it when you're ready.

Amen to that! Hey, Randy, when you're ready would you kindly shoot me a PM about that G332-F?  :)

Well, Bryan, of course you have seniority. I'm on my way to the back of the line. Besides, I'm sure you don't need it more than I don't.  ;)

Ive sent emails and PM's to Dwight many, many times about these reels and which ones to get. He built a super nice spinning rod for my son that outcasts all the other "custom" rods.

He has caught Cobia, Barracuda, King Mackerel, and many 30lb YFT with his new Dwight Special rod.

How many members want a G332-F?  I have a few (5 or 6) for sale.  I'm leaving very early Wed, AM for San Diego to go on a 9 day trip aboard the SOA.  If you're interested send me an email at:  thnkhoo@yahoo.com

I'm asking, $150 for them.  They have aluminum real bases, aluminum handle 400 series, and drags are HT100 with ground flat drag discs.  Forgot to add these all have aluminum spools, but can be changed out to graphite.

Those are some nice prices on those Gs. Those pictures look better than expected. Those reels were a real steal. Thanks to all for the kind words.

My stash is too silly guys. I will have to pass on these two beauties even though they are some of my favorites. Jerry and I recently pooled some parts from his stash and mine and built two beautiful Gs that will probably never get fished.

Sal, Aiala and Bryan can duke it out over these beauties.

The G-220's are some of my favorites.
I hope you decide to keep it.

Well, Bryan asked first so he should have first shot at it.

Dwight is #1.

Andy is #2.

But if others want them I'm good. But if no one wants them I'll take them. I see what Jerry has available.

Good idea, Bryan. And I don't feel deprived, since I just ordered myself a new Avet HXJ 5/2 MC --the so-called "Hoo-X"-- in orange!  :D

In due course I hope to commission a matching rod from Dwight... meantime, Mike and I shove off on our EXCEL 10-day in only 8 more weeks... waa-hoo!  ;D
