My guess is Ted made it 😎😎😎😎
:D So true!
Don't blame that reel from mars on me. Looks like green cheese. AKA Soilent Green 8) 8)
Dan, you know I'm only 15 minutes away from you, my question is: where do you find these hidden treasures?
You might have something unique, very nice.
Sal
Where did you find that treasures? Wow!!!
Honestly, my only purchasing venue of late has been eBay...every once in a while I get something from a friend or member, but that's rare.
eBay can be a very powerful tool...or an overpriced humdinger, haha.
Cool cradle Dan...kinda St. Patricks Special....I saw that posting and didnt see the locking collar for the ferule.....did it happen to come with it? Bill
Beautiful combo there!
:o
It's in great shape...very nice find Dan! 8)
Great find Dan. I missed that listing and I know of one very avid cradle collector that saw the listing and passed it up. He is now kicking himself. That is a unique piece. I suspect it is a jig welded cradle, not a aluminum casting. Very odd!!
Thanks for the input and comments all!
All parts are done soaking and ready for assembly so once I get some time I'll put it all back together and grab a couple pictures. No heavy dirt/dust, just a few decades of your daily 'grime' that needed to come off.
My information quest continues...
Glad you go that one, Dan! It's gonna look really sweet in your collection and it may even be the center piece.
Well done!
Dom
PS- John, you made me laugh, and you're probably right, lol ;D
Neat find! I don't think I've ever seen a cradle assembly before. Don't remember so, at any rate.

Cradle that's not a cradle !!! This is a cradle !!! Giant Kovalovsky cradle with Tycoon Martuna rod and unknown owner !!
Wow....that thing is a beast....Bill
Wow! That thing is gi-hugous...not a word, but perfectly suited for that reel combo.
Ok, got her back together and cleaned up. I'm happy, I would still love to find out more...she's a special one, to my little collection anyway.
Enjoy the pics!

Bro that is really an incredible set :o :o....cant wait to see the rod you top it with.... Bill
That's so sweet Dan.
With all of the machinists we have on this sight, you'd think we could find someone to make up mating ferrules. ;D
Great job Dan!...looks sweet!
Dan if your looking for a ferrule and nut I have a bunch of old stuff I have bought threw the years I can check it out. Looks like male needs to be around 7/8". If you want get an accurate measurement and I will try to find one. John Taylor
Thanks all :)
John - That would be fantastic! I believe it was a hair over 7/8" but let me put a set of calipers on it to verify. I'll message you once I get the info.
That's a nice shiny bauble you got there brother! Good work! What kind of tip are you gonna do? Have you decided or are you going hold off to see if you get an appx. mfg. period to go period correct (bamboo, wood or glas?) When you get to that point you may be able to find an old donor with a turned wood handle that could be ferruled and rewrapped; if you could come up with such a Harnell or other root-beer / mahogany color S-glas, then wrapped in green accent that would pop. No epoxy :), CP Ultra or the like for a low build. JMO, lol. Your stick, put a Grafighter with Aleutecnos rollers on it if you choose!
J
I would say Glass all the way MHO. If it is indeed some sort of Wahoo special maybe a 30 lb or light 50 lb rod maybe Silaflex or Harnell or Truline with either old style Aftco rollers or maybe first guide a small double roller then old hoop guides with roller top and like thorhammer said a turned wood fore grip or cork ?? It will be a neat rig that I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT !!! Let me know size of ferrule. John Taylor
Fiberglass rod would be the way to go. I checked the Penn 6/0 tip I have and the ferrule is too small for your handle.
Dan let me know if you get an accurate measurement for the ferrule size as I do have a few. Two I have at close with rods and grips there nice old school fiberglass ! John Taylor I will PM you my cell number
So after a few months, not a ton of headway on this, but it looks great in the case ;) John (54bullseye) and I had a fantastic conversation over the phone back in the spring and I ended up mailing him the cradle (which reminds me I need to send him shipping money, oops :-\) He was kind enough to take a look and send her back with a Collar Nut and a ferrule that I'll be modifying to fit. This will be a long project, with 'life' breaks in between :D
Here she sits for the time being...

If you decide how you want to tip it let me know and I'll keep an eye out for a donor in my travels. At worst you can lay hands on an old Magnaflex for the glass (actually I have some solid blanks) and put on a retro paint job and wrap, like a spiral tiger wrap over gold foil underlay.

now that would look nice!
Maybe spray the blank matching green with black or brown thread as below, or black, maybe chestnut blank to math handle with green thread spiraled over gold. this technique was widely used in the 60's or so.
That would look nice but if it were mine I would find a nice old school reddish brown fiberglass rod maybe a Silaflex or Trueline they used to use those on the early Nep-Tuna's. Or you could just sell it to me I have a perfect spot in my cradles it would fit then you could let me worry about the rod !! I will give you double $$$$$ what you paid !! Lol ! I like it !! John Taylor

Agree, if that old blank color comes up that's the way to go; that's why I said maybe the mahogany / roobeer paint if you had to "make it happen"
That's awesome! Are you going to fish it or just use it as a display?
I would fish it but I have so many cradles I would like to try it will be hard to pick. John
Great looking cradle reel....good to see it's staying in the family....Bill
Well done John! It would have taken me a couple years to get that far ;) I'm glad it has a great new home among your other cradles.
I would say the title of the thread is fitting...so, the Adventure continues!
