Title: Grinding sound from Accurate Boss Extreme 400 ?
Post by: Drisse on March 05, 2022, 11:12:29 AM
Hello people!

A friend gave me his lefthanded Accurate Boss Extreme 400 for a simple service. The reel is in good condition but it has a grinding sound. It comes from the handle sideplate. If i crank it with only the maingear in it, it makes sound. So it might be the IAR bearing even if it looks to be in good shape and works as it should. No rustcolour at at all. I overoiled with Corrosion X, but no difference. Any ideas?

Kinda a shot in the dark; I got some improvement in my Accurate ARB by removing everything else from the side-plate, putting a cork in the ARB/handle shaft hole, balancing the side-plate up, and filling/soaking the ARB with solvent. Keep flushing until the solvent is clear.

If it ain't that, could it be the pinion bearing?

the pinion gear is always the first suspect.
