Title: TLD 20 vs TLD 20II A
Post by: seacane on September 07, 2018, 09:11:05 PM
Shimano specifications give a max drag rating of 23lbs for the TLD 20 and 30lbs for the TLD 20IIA.
Is the frame of TLD 20IIA that much stronger than the TLD 20 or is there another explanation.
Thank you

They are massively different reels. The 20IIA is not just a 2-speed TLD20; the internals are completely different.
The TLD20 anti-reverse acts on the drive gear, whereas the 20IIA has 2 dogs that act on the pinion.

Compare the schematics, there's a lot of places the reels are very different.
