So heres the sign-up for the second batch of big boy senator inserts and drag kits. The price on the 12/0 size is staying the same at $54 each, but the price on the 14/0 size is going up to $56 each. Shipping will be $6 for USPS Priority mail, a flat rate for any number of kits(as long as your order fits in a small flat rate box).
Heres the original thread (http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=13432.0)
I do have spares available for these kits. Both sizes use all the same washers, the only difference is the OD of the insert itself. Extra delrin washers for $1.50 each, and a set of carbon fiber washers for $18.
The insert is 5052 aluminum. Due to manufacturing tolerances, slight fitting may be requires. The aluminum insert is easy to file to fit. If you think the fitting required is major, then message me, and Ill take care of you.
The drag stack is 7 pieces of 1.5mm carbon fiber eared drag washers, 6 pieces of 0.060" stainless keyed washers, and 1 piece of 0.125" stainless keyed washer. The kit also includes a delrin washer for under the main gear.
The first batch was quite a success, and there were a few people who didnt get signed up in time. Here's your chance, you dont want to miss it again. I only do these insert kits in batches, so there's no guarantee that there will more runs after this one.
I have Daron down for 2 more 12/0 and 2 more 14/0 kits. Anyone else who messaged me, please respond here so I can keep track of everyone.
*This list is open for signups until Friday, October 2nd. No payments will be due(or taken) until the kits are ready to ship, but you do need to be on the list to reserve your kits.*
please put me on the list for One 12/0 insert kit and One 14/0 insert kit --- thanks
One set for 14/0 please.

The metal parts should last as long as the reel. The carbon fiber may need replacement depending on how often and hard it gets fished. Spares will always be available though.
After some initial fitting. You will love these. Trust me. ;)
I'll take two sets for the 12/0 and two sets for the 14/0, thanks.
I changed my mind.
5 kits for the 12/0 and 4 for the 14/0.
The Shark guys in my area want me to do their reels.
Keith
Tom has the sleeves Keith.

I'll take one 14/0 insert.
I'll take one set with Carbon washers for a 12/0. Wouls I need an extra delrin washer? Still learning about this stuff lol
Also, any idea on when a 9/0 one will be up for grabs again? Thanks for making these!
Thanks for making these available again. I'll take a 12/0 set and 14/0 set. Add two drag kits , one extra set cf washers and two additional delrin washers.
The kits come with a delrin washer for under the gear. Those same delrin washers are also available separately, either for replacement parts or to use in a reel with a standard drag.
9/0 kits will be soon. I have the components on order.
I will take 2 for the 14/0. I also need 4 stainless dogs for 14/0 also, if someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks
In addition to the 14/0 set, I am also interested in the 6/0 set.

Mike
Any word on these?
Still dont have the parts back from the cutter.
If you posted here before the cutoff date, you are definitely covered. I had a few extras of each size cut, and they will be offered first come, first serve.
Okay thanks for the update.
I wanted to update this thread, even though theres not much to report. Still dont have parts, but Im meeting with one of the owners on Monday. Im pretty frustrated with the situation, buy hopefully next week will bring good news.
You provide a valuable service for us Adam. Don't stress over it. You always come through. ;)

I have a few 6/0 inserts now, but i don't have the kits put together yet. I'm looking for new suppliers for the inserts, and I'll do a big batch of 6/0 kits and some 4/0 kits as soon as I can.
Are there any 9/0 kits available?

9/0 and 6/0 are the same kits. Both reels use the same main gear, and therefore the same drag kit.
I have a few kits im putting together, but they arent ready just yet.
Its that time! Im almost finished putting together all the big senator kits, and will be sending out invoices to everyone who posted here this weekend. I will start shipping the kits on Monday of next week.
I had a few extras of each size cut, and they will be available on a first come, first serve basis. I will have a count on whats available once I fill all the current orders.
I would like an insert kit for a 12/0. Please put me on the list. Best, Mike.
Awesome!
Come Get Some! ;D
Everyone who has already paid up will have their kits in the mail on monday.
Adam, those inserts are making me drool all over my computer.....
.......Do you have any extra that are not spoken for ?? if so I would love a 6/0 kit and 2-113H kits
Thanks, Ted
Adam makes a fine product.
He busts his tail for us, and I for one am very grateful. ;)
There are a few people who reserved kits who haven't paid or contacted me yet. As of 1-24-16 those kits are going back in the general stock, and will be available for purchase by anyone.
That aside, I do have extras of both sizes. Just reply here with what you want.
Please advise.
I put the drag set in and sits just below flush inside the gear.
If I install the top cap it rubs the gear.
Do I need another small washer on the top drag washer?
But then would the keyed insert possibly slide outward?
It looks like you have a thin washer on the top of the stack? The order should be cf washer on the bottom, then thin metal washer, cf, etc, and finishing with the thick metal washer on the top. If that stack isnt tall enough in your case, Ill send you another metal washer to take up the extra space. Just PM me what you need(thick or thin) and Ill get it out to you.
They were all thin so I think a thick should fix it.
Thanks
With the thick one on top Rock, it should look like this.
This is a 12/0, but the result should be the same.
Yes, I noticed this picture which led me to believe mine needed a thick.
I was wondering what holds the insert sleeve from migrating outward?
Just a millimeter slip would expose the bottom drag?
Maybe I should add a small bit of epoxy between the inside gear and outside sleeve to be safe?
Rock,
When you get that thick washer. I set mine up so there is a small amount of drag with the star backed all the way off. That way the insert and washers can't move out of position.
Most of my inserts are a snug fit, so they won't move anyway.
I thought it may needed to be pinned or glued.
Just tension on the drag can stop the insert from moving outward?
Looks like I can use a punch to peen the top of the gear just to be safe.
That is a good point Rocky, I never really thought about the insert itself moving.
If I am using one in a 14 or 16/0, I replace the main with stainless.
These fit perfect and the insert is flush with the top of the gear.
Not that it is necessary, it is just how I do it.
Adam has been constantly improving these. The majority of mine are a snug fit in the gear.
Meaning I will literally press fit it in the main gear with a hydraulic press instead of filing the insert to fit.
I will mix and match gear sets to find the perfect fit.
You could also shim the outside of the insert with some thin aluminum sheet to make if fit snug.
Mine fit perfectly with no resistance.
I have the original bronze gear so a small peen should be easy.
In his case another Delrin washer on top would be fine even after the thick metal washer is back on top.
On the 6/0 and 9/0 reels I put one under the main gear, on top of the drag stack, and another under the drag star. This is with using the insert's.
I installed one in a 10/0 and I like it.
Personally,
I think this is the best upgrade for big senators.
Rocky makes a valid point, its obvious he is serious about his reels.
However, it is not a concern of mine.
Just because I make sure my inserts are tight in the gear and maintain pressure on the stack.
Steel gears or stainless are my preference over bronze in this application.
I don't think there is a strength issue with the bronze, I just think the final fitment is better with the inserts.
Rocky I used SH, Sal and Tightlines post to place mine in the reel.
It was a big help working on the drag stack.
It escapes me where the post are.
I hope it has worked out for you.
I peened the gear to lock the insert in place.
I guess my caution comes from witnessing a lot of harmonic balancers come apart during the 80's. 8)
Washer worked like a charm.
Thanks Adam!
Drag is great!

I haven't installed mine yet, but wouldn't some grease(graphite maybe, for the different metals) help with keeping the insert in? I also was wondering if it wouldn't be an issue on the smaller plates without side accessible drags since the plate stops the drags from coming out? I just don't see peening a steel gear as an option for myself. Thank you for the AAR though.
When the outer hardware was removed I tipped the reel over and the insert easily fell out into my hand and the drags remained on the gear shaft.
Of course there was no drag at that time.
I don't know absolutely if slight pressure on the drags will keep the insert permanently in place so I peened it.
I do on occasion remove all drag pressure.
Not sure how much outward travel other reels have but my 14/0 had no plate to hold it from moving.
I felt that you never know what could happen when everything heats up as a big shark peels off line.
I just did a 9/0 with steel gear and Adam's inserts. The insert was a little loose sliding in and out of the gear, so I was worried about what you had brought up. I left the insert out to assemble and test the dogs on the side plate. I tried to put the insert in from the handle side. The ears prevented it from going into the side plate. I looked and can see where, at least on the 9/0, the gear almost touches the plate. I don't think they will slide in this particular model, as I had to remove the bridge plate to install the insert.
I'm new on here but I started hearing through the grape vine about how great these up grades are. I'd like to make an order if I'm not too late. 2 sets of 16/0 8stack if possible and 2 sets of 12/0 8stack also. Feel free to message me on here! Thanks and glad to chop it up with some penn senator guys!
