I have a 113H with a Tib yt special frame that won't go into freespool under load, which is very annoying when you are rockfishing. When the reel is not under load it does freespool well. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Check the pinion-female to spool-male connection, could be too tight.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

Maybe the drag dog is not pivoting as regular as it should be, maybe to much grease, restricting its pivoting, good luck, cheers Don.

I see this on many reels

You have to easily roll your thumb back on the spool and it will work fine

The Penn Baja special does the same thing. There is too much pressure on the eccentric lever

one thing that might help is to chamfer the leading edge of the yoke.  it can make it easier to go from "in gear" to "free."  sometimes the lever is gets stuck and this can take some of the load off.  there are two different eccentric jacks, so it makes a difference which side you file down.

you can see how the tabs are bent one way or the other for the two different style penn jacks.  that will determine which side of the yoke is filed down.  a small triangular file or flat file will work great.  it doesn't take much.  just get rid of that sharp corner and you should be good.

Also take note of the shiny jack on the left, top left hand side, it has a score mark on it, that indicates the the spring is protuding through the essentric & wearing into the jack, I like to take a bit of the spring, it stops the ware, & also makes it easier to move it in & out of gear, cheers Don.

Finally fixed it, but I did try a number of things.
This 113h had a Tib narrow frame and the higher speed upgraded Accurate gear and pinion.
First I tried to chamfer the yoke a number of times. That didn't work. It did get slightly better adjusting the left sideplate bearing. I changed the yoke to a new one and chamfered it. The eccentric and both of the yokes were stainless. That didn't work either

Then I changed the gear and pinion back to the old slower originals with the same stainless yoke and eccentric. That didn't work.

Then I bought a new brass yoke and eccentric. Put that in with the old slow gear and pinion, and it finally worked.

Thanks for reporting back, glad you have it under control, now leave some fish in the ocean for us, cheers Don.

sorry that it was such a hassle.  usually a little filing does the trick.   :-\

Thanks for your advice. I would have never been able to fix it if you hadn't given me a starting point.

I have shown a few people on roll the spool back just with your thumb. It releases all pressure of the jack and yoke.

Doesn't sound like an ideal fix since your back to the original 3.25:1 gears rather than the higher speed 4:1.
