I have 3 TLD's. Servicing a reel for a friend and found this. Never seen it happen before and can't figure out why the main gear is actually sitting on the pinion guard. Any idea?

I found the problem. Looks like this reel was dropped on the handle side plate and it knocked the brass bushing that's pressed into the plate out of place, moving it a hair towards the interior of the reel and taking the main gear with it......
Sure enough...lol

Well at least you figured it out quick. Parts still available for that reel? If your friend wants to spend the money that is.

Yes, parts are still available. $8.75 for the pinion guard and $9.80 for the side plate. He bought this used reel on ebay for $40!

Great example of how to diagnose an issue on thise pesky TLDs. Good reeos, but they can have problems that can require parts where costs escalate over their value quickly.
