Here it is...if you need more than 28# of smooth drag from your Penn 114H (6/0 High Speed) or your 115L (9/0), this kit is for you. The two extra carbon fiber HT-100 drag washer should let you gain 8-10# of drag while maintain a smooth operation. This kit should be used with Penn's Steel or Stainless Steel Gear Sets or aftermarket gears from Pro Challanger or Accurate if operating at the high range due to their higher strength.
Here's how they stack up
And the lasted eared sit flat into the main gear
The System: Still $39/set if pay via paypal. Includes shipping in the USA.
The System includes
7 - Penn's 6-115 HT-100 carbon fiber drag washers
1 - Penn's 6-114 HT-100 carbon fiber drag washers
3 - Thin and hardened stainless steel eared washers
4 - Thin and hardened stainless steel keyed washers
If you only need metal drag washers, they are $3 each plus shipping.
Please PM me your address, number of kit or washers you are interested in purchasing, and your paypal address. I will send the kits out along with your paypal invoice.
Thank you.
Bryan
One satisfied customer. Thanks Bryan! (and I could have probably got another half turn out of her)
Bryan's 7/1 kit + Alan's gen 2 gear sleeve kit= 42.5lbs of drag.
Thank you. By the way, that one cool looking star.
You noticed that to, is pretty nice.
Thanks guys. Tossed a factory penn star on the drill press and tinkered around with ideas. I ended up drawing up a design I liked and now I'm waiting to see if a buddy of mine is gonna follow through and cnc them for me or how much it would cost from a commercial shop.
This is the idea I ended up with. Recessed a little like the one on Penn's Torque. Just enough to shield the spring washer and not contact the sideplate or get in the way. Overall width increased a bit to give better contact area. Something that might come in handy with all this drag Bryan's kit provides. I'm not an engineer by trade though, so my design may not even work.
Nice looking star, but I would want 5 points, 6 might even be better.
If you could get some for the jig master as well, I'm in!
Nice star! I'm with Sal on this one. 5 or6 arms would be nice.
Very nicw. So many talented folks here. I can only do 2-D drawings at the moment.
I'm in need of a good low cost CAD program, any suggestions?
Thanks guys! I'll see what I can do.

I use Autodesk's Inventor Fusion 360 but there weren't too many Mac options when I got it.
I will check it out. I tried SketchUp but did not like it.

Draftsight is a very good, and completely free, 2d cad program. I have used it a good bit, and it is very similar in operation to Autocad.

I too use draftsight. I like it and meets my needs for now.

Like this?
PM me for the 3D model (solidworks) if someone wants to have this made at a CNC shop.
I am not going to make it.
Trond if you sent the file to me does it have everything needed for a machine shop to go to work on them? Like a "working drawing".

This wouldn't work on an older black side plate 6/0 would it?

Unfortunately not. I've been meaning to make washers for the black 114s. I guess it's time. It would be a great grouper reel with the low gear ratio.

If you are asking about the star wheel, yes it uses the same sleeve as the 114H/115. The main gear is a smaller diameter so uses smaller diameter drag washers.
Would this work on the 115L2, or only the 115l?
The main gears are the same, So Yes, this drag kit will fit both.
Which? Star Wheel or drags? Star Wheel fits 114, 114H, and all 115 reels. The drag washers will not fit a 114.
Bryan,
Do you see any problems using this with the old style 115? I have a 1940's 115 that has the old felt washers and drag accessible from the outside, any issues you see? Thanks!
Brian
The Penn replacement 5 washer CF set drops right in & so will Bryan's 7 washer set. Rudy

The only issue you will have with my 7-stack or my 5-stack is the groove will not be deep enough down in the main gear for the first eared washers to seat fully down in the main gear.

Thanks Bryan,
So either leave one washer out or cut the ears off of one?
Brian
If that's the case, a stock washer going in first...metal keyed or carbon fiber, should cure the problem.
Most gears are good as they are.

Let me see if I can create a kit for these gears.
Bryan,
Thanks. I just ordered a new SS gear set for the 9/0 so don't go too far out of your way. :-) Thanks again!
Not too worry.
I installed this kit on my 114HLW and paired it with Penn's Belleville and a delrin on top of that...holy cow. Bottom'd out my 25 lb scale with about one full turn left maybe even a little more...super smooth. I'm thinking that this reel will easily pull #40 lbs of drag....so great for the 50, 60 and even 80 crowd. Penn advertises that HLW as a 80 lb reel and this drag kit paired with a few other goodies makes it so. Many thanks Brian...you da man.
Glad the kit rocks for you. No go catch some fish. 🐟 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

Brian, I'd like one for my HLW as well. Can you send me an invoice? I'll pm my address.
