Title: benifit of long cast spool vs. factory spool
Post by: Hankzudd on November 02, 2023, 12:15:54 PM
how much difference does the long cast spool make? reel is Battle II 8000, which is a backup/loaner
for offshore, bridge & other heavy applications; setting up for surf fishing, but spool only holds 330yds. of 15lb braid, so the amount of line may be an issue?

what if i just used the factory spool, loaded with say 20-25lb braid & kept filled as much as possible;
rod would be 12'.  thanks

You can't just swap the spool. The Battle II 8000 Longcast is a completely different reel.

The spool itself doesn't really make much difference. It's the length and speed of the oscillation that makes it a long cast reel.

That size Battle holds waaay more line than that!

I have 80lb braid on mine and it probably holds that much.
