Option 2: No

With reference to Alan's bearing packers, would you be interested in purchasing larger bearing packers, similarly to http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=870.0 for larger trolling reel bearings?
If larger than 1.5", please add comment to the largest size you would be interested in purchasing. Also, please indicate a reasonable price you'd be willing to pack for the larger bearing packer.
If there is a good interest, we may price out a quantity to see if it's financial reasonable to provide a larger bearing packer.
The pole is open for 30 days. This should give us an idea if this is something that should be looked into further.

i could use a set that can do 50's to 130's and im sure most of the repair shop's here would be interested.
tom, want to do a special run?
Of course! Let me know what you want size-wise, and I'll work something up.
I use and love the bearing packers... Just did 14 bearings today in no time flat... I'm in on that special run if it happens... gonna be getting into the big game scene soon so gotta get prepped. 1 for me please :P
Dom
Hey Dom: Did I tempt you with a Baja run? ;D The Good Dom

Hey Tom,
I'm gonna meet up with a bunch of folks in Hawaii to measure bearing out and will get back to you. Looks like a good niche market for sure. Still waiting to see if it's financially feasable.
Dominick,
It definitely helped ;) , but I've been psyching myself up for a lil' sharkin' and tuna fishing in the canyons or mudhole (NJ/NY) for a few years now. My only problem is the lack of dedicated crew members (with experience). I've got a bunch of fishing buds, but it ain't easy snatching up employed and married >:( guys from their wives for a full day trip... especially all 3 guys on a week day, which is when I'm off work (they aren't). This year I got a plan... I'm going to grab one buddy of mine on a Monday and let him think we're going striper fishing for a few hours... emphasize on the THINK! ...We goin' SHARKIN' Boy!!! Hope he doesn't realize the different gear, chum buckets, 200 lbs of ice, food and drink for 24hrs, larger baits, gaffs, harpoon (better leave that in the galley-it's a dead give away ;) Hey Dom... wanna here some great tournament fish stories from your trip.
Dom
Hey Dom: Is your boat big enough to run to the canyon? You gonna need mucho petrol amigo. That's where the Big Eye lurk. When I learn how to get my photos over from PhotoBucket, I'll post them on the fish picture thread. Dom
It sure is... 320EC World Cat w/ twin 300 suzuki's. Worse case scenario I could bring a 50 gallon fuel bladder to be safe. Here Fishy fishy fishy!
Dom
kamuwela-san, 1.5 inches works? tom, delron? the cost of brass would be prohibitive......
im pretty sure that should be fine. but ill measure out a few and get back to you
Hi Alan,
Did you want to come up with a prototype before I leave for Hawaii?
Bryan
that depends on tom.........
bryan saw a great design here today will show you on monday
got pics?
Alan, I may have some machine time this weekend, let me know...
tom, can i get you and bryan together? i forget when bryan is leaving for hawaii.
Sure Bryan can give me a shout whenever he needs to! I got material in this morning, so I'll be knocking out a couple prototypes this weekend. Do you want the original packer enlarged to hold an 1-1/2" bearing, or a seperate unit that starts at 1-1/8" and goes up to 1-1/2"?
Hi Tom,
Basically, if I can get them by Saturday, March 12, that would be great.
Can we get one or two of each (one for me to take to Hawaii and one for Alan to review).
I personally think that a separate unit may be the better way to go because swiching from a tiny bearing to a large bearing and back, we would have to scrape up a cup full of grease to get the small bearing to sit right or we may loose it in the grease.
Bryan
Hey Bryan/ Alan,
I made two sets, I'll get them over to Alans this week!
wow! that was fast!!!!!
Wow, I was thinking the same thing.
Thanks Tom!!!
I don't know you personally, Tom , but I like the way you work... Quality and Fast!!!
Dom
I would be in for that.I have a bunch of reels that have the larger bearings.Keep us posted,Thanks
Large Bearing Packers are in Hawaii. Will take pics and post when I get there of the prototypes. Roy's Fishing Supply in Aiea has a bearing packer that I am interested in, and they may allow me to take pics and I will post them as well.
Here are pics of the prototype bearing packers.

You may use the plug from the original bearing packer
Looking good! Let us know when we can get our paws on 'em... will those delrin threads that screw onto the metal grease gun threads last?
Dom
Again, these are prototypes.
I know you said they're prototypes, but was just curious if you think the threads would last being delrin?
Thanks
Dom
With normal use, I think the threads will be fine. Now define normal..... If you are really worried, your local hardware store should have an 1/8" NPT male/female fitting. Screw it into the back of the packer once and leave it, now you can screw into the metal female thread of the adapter. I really wouldn't worry about it.
Just my .02
Thanks Tom, sounds like a plan.
Dom
that's why brass is so nice!
Amen to that, Alan!
Dom
did these ever get made? they look great. to ask a stupid question, what size reels are we talking about that would require 1" to 1.5" bearings?
Due to some unforseeable circumstances, this has been put on hold. Not sure when these will become available yet. Maybe Aaron would be interested in making these up for larger bearings. It's just we will not be able to at this time.
The bearings of these sizes are usually found in 80 and 130 sized trolling reels.
Sure guys.. How many do we need to make? What is the step pattern? Do you want them out of delrin? I am thinking aluminum... let me know

I just used Alan's regular SAE (inch) packer on a Penn 55-80 bearing for my Penn 50, and it fit in the second to the largest ring. Phew! :)
Rob, the bearing on my 9500SS just made it on the last ring. I think Alan knew about how big to make those packers. They work great don't they.
I know this is an old thread, but just wondering if anyone actually ended up making these? I use Alan's standard size packer on all of the bearings, but it doesn't really fit the 80 and 130 class reels that I specialize in working on. It will force grease into these bearings but, I tend to waste a lot out of the sides if his packer in the process since the bearings (OD) do not actually fit in the packer. I certainly would buy a metric and a standard set of larger packers if they were available.
I believe had a few made. Send him a pm
Sent a PM to Aaron. I wonder if anyone has ever seen any larger bearing pullers (adaptors) as well. Usually the larger bearings are easier to deal with, but every now and again I run into a particularly stubborn one.
PM Alan Tani,I'm pretty sure Alan has a few of these left.

i do have some left. it's the cup only. to get the best performance, you will need the cone from the brass set. send a pm with your shipping info if you want a set. thanks!!!!! alan
