OK. Here is a brain teaser for you!
The spool body on the latest Thuunus Ci4 has a recess at the bottom of the drag well which accommodates a bearing as well as a nylon bearing bush.
The reel I received was terribly neglected 4000. It is likely that it had never been serviced.
The spool bearing was badly corroded and seized in the spool body. Removal was so difficult that damaging the nylon bush is pretty much guaranteed.
And here is the kicker: Neither the bush nor the bearing is listed in the schematic. Neither are they available as a spare part from Shimano. Your only option is to purchase the whole spool (cost $50). For the sake of a $3 part, I find this unbelievable but apparently this is the same for the all Ci4 Thunnus reels.
I looked for a bearing of equivalent dimensions which might replace both parts (4.5x10x4) but no joy.
Any of you clever fellows out there got a sneaky solution?
PS: The attached pictures were taken from another reel which allowed clean extraction.

skip the nylon: go by bearing OD & bushing ID and & check among baitcaster handle knob BB's -- I vaguely recall Chronarch B (???) being interchangeable w/ same-era spinner spool BB's (older models, no nylon liners)... sorry, don't know the dimensions

Since there is no axial load at all on this bearing, it might be possible to glue a bush in place.
Just need to source a supplier of Nylon or Delrin tube ID 4.5mm OD 6.0mm if anyone might know of someone?
I have tried some likely sources here in Oz but no luck so far.

I think Shimano has oil impregnate brass bearings in their reels as well as plastic bearings in their Calcutta reels with the same size.
Is the spool shaft 4.5 mm in OD?
I tried today to look up the spool click and spring for a Spheros 5000. They didnt show or list the replacement parts. Just a new spool. Now i have to guess which parts from another Shimano reel will work.
On other reels they do have the separate parts.
Im still working on finding something that will work. If not ill call my machine shop friend and have him make a brass bushing that measures 4.5x10x4. That should work fine as it will be like most other spinning reel spools.

Yeah I know. It's strange!
I am not getting anything rational that I can work with from Shimano.
I just don't understand it. Why don't they release these as spare parts? I can see no good reason.
Anyway, it is what it is and now it's up to us to devise a solutions to these unfathomable mysteries.

Hi Bryan,
Are you referring to the nylon worm bushes in the Calcutta?
I checked these along with the ABU counterpart and any others I have here. Unfortunately, no compatible solution was found.

I would try to give them a call. Thats what i will do on the clicker parts. If they do have them they will send out for free. Hopefully....

Try searching for Nylon spacers or nylon shoulder washers.

I serviced a Thunnus 4000 recently with the same issue. I was able to salvage the bushing, and sourced a bearing from Shimano.
