I've repaired Newell's on deck before but won't touch other brands of reels. That was funny.

Now that is funny. An old retired captain that I know nearly beat a mate to death because he caught him throwing reels and rods over board because he did not have patience for a birdnest fix.

Exactly why I DON'T work on the reels on the boat. I usually bring enough gear with me that I could almost not have to tie any more knots. My wife thinks I'm nutz when I go fishing with everything that goes with me ;D

I've done Penn and Avet reels on the deck of a pitching boat.

Yes that was funny, But captian could have called me I would have covered shipping for a new/used reel and fixed it up myself. Anyone get the corrodinance for the drop. :D

He should have sent it to me I could have fixed it in the time he took to throw it overboard. Some people have no patience any more. What a waste.

I agree, Especially if I am on a party boat, I always bring a backup rod / reel combo and a backup reel for each in the bottom of my dry bag. On my boat, I always keep 4 spare rod reel combo's on board. I am READY!

I'm sure it was intended to be funny, but seeing that reel go overboard brought a tear to my eye.  Even if it was a beater, I'm sure I could have used some of those parts.
