Title: Shimano Talica for cows?
Post by: 299YFT on November 04, 2010, 03:44:56 PM
I have used the smaller Talica 10 and Talica 12 reels and have been VERY impressed by them.  The reels cast exceptionally well and have all the drag needed to fish 40, 50 and 60 pound test line.

I was looking at the Shimano website and saw that there are Talica 20's and 25's available.  I feel that they probably cast and free spool well, but do these reels have the ability (drag capacity and anti reverse ability-anti reverse bearings vice double dogs) to fish for cow sized tuna?

p.s.  Thanks Alan for a great website; the detail in your reel maintenance tutorials is fantastic!!

Tim, I read somewhere, unfortunately I don't recall which site, that the crew from Melton's fished them in Madeira and caught 200#+ Big eyes with them. Maybe you can contact someone from Meltons and they can give you more info, but I recall them saying the reels performed well.

I'm quite sure the Talica II25 will handle big fish...ie cow size 400kg Tuna.

They may also pull you off the boat!!
