Title: "ARB" main bearings for charter special
Post by: CaptKev on November 18, 2012, 10:12:40 PM
I ordered new main bearings for my reels. The distributor said Shimano now sells ARB bearings. Are they anti-reverse bearings? Just curious if anyone had some insight.

G'day Kev,
These are Shimano's own ARB or Anti-Rust Bearings.
More details here: http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/Reel_Icons/arb.html (http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/Reel_Icons/arb.html)
Cheers, Justin

The ARB bearings from Shimano may be anti-rust, but they are definitely not rust proof. Be sure to grease the pinion bearing heavily and keep the spool bearings clean and coated with Corrosion-X. This is vital with Shimano bearings.

I think they were $8-10 each? I ordered a few dozen parts so I'm not sure.

The newer 1000s already had open bearings. The older 2000 bearings had a shield on one side. Even though my bearings looked okay while replacing the main and pinion gears, over half still had little grind to them. Hopefully the new bearings wil make them like new again. I will report back when I git 'er done.

I only fish mine in fresh water, I think anything would be an improvement over the original bearings - Jimmer
