STEP 1: Folk art fish stuffed with handles, levers, and stars. All you gotta do is guess how many of each
STEP 2: Guess how many spoons in the pile.
I'll post the prizes ASAP
Winners will pay shipping fees and any duty fees. One entry per person
The parts in the fish will be pulled out and counted(by me) on May 15. The sealed box of spoons will be unsealed and counted on may 15 as well, and winners will be determined at that time. Up until that day, nobody knows the winning numbers, myself included. I stuffed the fish 3 years ago and am clueless as to what's in there.
Lots of stuff up for grabs. Yep, I'm going insane and please don't tell my wife.
Anyone that hits all 4 numbers exactly will get a NIB Avet ice blue HXJ 4.2 in addition to 1st choice from the pile of prize options.
Contest ends May 14th at midnight WST
The prize options pictured here. Boxed reels self explanatory. Middle section is (clockwise)-silver Cortez classic 99 with newell spool, long beach 67 with my new seat, new graphite clamp, nice power handle, and aluminum spool, black jigmaster 500 seat and newell spool, red jigmaster 500 spool seat clamp and lever, mint silver 500 accurate frame with matching clamp, brand new black super wide jigmaster 500 frame/spool kit, a 2.5/0 senator in mint condition, and lastly in dead center is black extra narrow jigmaster frame/spool kit

Whoa! 2 major variables with the 2 diffrent steps, and 3 variables for the first step. This is like the lottery. You gotta get ALL the numbers right to win 1st prize, how's the rest work(2nd prize, etc.)?
1) 16---handle/knobs
16---e. levers
16---drag stars
2) 53 spoons

Sorry Greg, that's too many questions ;D. 1st thru 10th place winners each get to choose from what's left in the pile.
That's right Gfish ! If you don't play, ya' can't win !....at least that's what the Lotto commercials keep telling me !
I hope this "Guess How Many" contest doesn't turn out like the one they had at the Physical Therapy place I went to, last year....."Guess how many M&M's are in the jar !" The Doctor from the next office kept coming in, and "sampling"....but the time the contest deadline got there////he had eaten them all !
I know huh. Takes away from the fun if you get too intricate with contest rules. Thanks for doing this Ted, indeed it is a fun thing!

Good fun Ted, it's been a while since I've cleaned a folk art but from memory they aren't big eaters, I would say there's;
20 handles
2 stars
8 levers
4 oz lentils
As for the spoons - well I can't see any. There is a pile of 72 spoon shaped lures. but no spoons. ::)
Thanks
Mike
Very generous of you to do this, Ted.
Here's my guesses:
19 handles
5 levers
3 stars
74 spoons
Nelz, you got handles correct, 47 off of levers, 4 off of stars, that's 51
Then you were 151 off of spoon count. Total is 202. Dam, you got me. I still got something for you and Vilters now gets 10th place. My apologies
Ted,
I did my best to blow up the pics and count :D :D

Add all 4 guesses together, and take actual count and difference between your guesses and actual count will be your#. Person with lowest# wins. Top 10 will get to choose thier prize . 1st place gets first pick and on down to 10th
The box of spoons are sealed up at Sal's house. He will pop the seal and count them once contest is closed at midnight this Thursday west coast time.
The fish is still as pictured and I will coordinate with Sal as I gut the fish and we both do simultaneous counts to reveal the winners !!

One for the math geniuses: what would be the probability of of getting both step 1(3 seperate numbers) and step 2 correct, (that's 4 correct numbers, total) if say, step 1 was limited to 50 total parts and step 2 was limited to 100 parts?

Sorry Greg, I didn't figure any rocket scientist math into this. Nothing complicated. Just guess and win. No strings attached ;)

Hello guys, Sorry this took a while, I was trying to download this video and it gave me a hard time. I hope everything shows ok.
This short video was done 10 hours after the contest was over, so you could see that I did not open the box earlier, not that it matters anyway, I was way off with my guessing 😁

Noooooo! :o
Oh, and hey, you're looking good and healthy brother Sal. So what if you missed on the spoon count, you get to keep them!
Sal, your video has me laughing my #### off
So far I counted 18 levers.....still more to count
Ok, took a little break and started counting again...
As mentioned earlier here are the 25 already counted:
Now, every drawer holds 5 spoons
we have 25 drawers...so far
This makes it 125 + the 25 counted earlier takes us to 150 spoons...so far.
we still have a small pile to go, but I'm going to take another break because I get tired easily lately.
I will be back with the total count on the spoons.
I love Sal's Italian accent...and its great to see him looking so healthy. 8)
Thanks for the nice comments guys, I must say I do feel pretty good lately.
Ok, I'm back counting and here is what I came up with:
There are 4 rows of 10 drawers each, as mentioned earlier each drawer holds 5 spoons.
So we have 200 spoons on the drawers and 25 on the bench, making it a total of 225 spoons.
Ted will figure out the winner, I believe it will be whomever came close.
Ted, this has been fun! I...and I'm sure everyone else, appreciates what you have come up with.
You are one unique individual, but I already knew this, I've known you before joining this great site of ours.
By the way, where do I send the spoons to?....
Thanks for the entertainment buddy!
Sal
It has been fun, but funnest part was seeing the look on your face when you peeled that box of spoons open. I think Gary in Alaska could find homes for those spoons. I'll pay the shipping
The final count of levers is....DRUM ROLL.......52
So final count is...
19 Handles
7 Stars
52 Levers
225 spoons
How far did you miss each number by ?? A total of the 4 will give us the winners.
Example: if you guessed 27 handles, 2 stars, 18 levers... you were 8 over on handles, 5 under on stars, and 34 under on levers for a total of 47 off from actual count. Then if you guessed 88 spoons, you'd be 137 off. Add 137 to 47 and that's your #. lowest number wins and on down to 10th place
Don't worry about the shipping, I'll get them out to him, it's not a problem.
Thanks again for doing this Ted.
Sal
I don't think anyone will need to check my math. I was off by 241
This has been a fun contest. Thanks Ted
Nick
Ok I did the math (I hate math :P )
My number is: 171
This was fun, thanks Ted!!
Still doing math, but looks like Justin has a low number and might be hard to beat.
Might have a booby prize for Mo, as he nailed 2 of the 4 numbers
12 handles, 3 stars & 20 levers. Oh yeah 58 spoons...did I win???

Chad, I redid your math 19 handles, 3 stars, 11 levers. Here is how far off your guesses were from actual count. Handles 00, stars 4, levers 41. Then your 93 spoon guess was off by 132... 4+41+132= 177

Was a pleasant diversion from the everyday though and great deal of entertainment.
Thanks Ted for doing this.

Yes Col, it always ends well. Most my custom builds started with a frame, or a colored spool, or a tiburon kit or set of Cortez plates, then I'd slowly build a reel around that one part. It only takes one custom part to open a rabbit hole, but it's a rewarding rabbit hole !!
Ted

Thanks to everyone for a fun time.
Statistically speaking, those guys from down unda kicked our butts. They took 3 of the top 10 spots. Justin, Kim, and Col. Congrats to you guys and sorry your box will not come with any fumunda cheese
We won't be happy till all the Penn Gems are all safely tucked in down under Ted ;D
No, We are all very so appreciative of your kindness with this great wee competition you have put on for everyone here.

Wow, that was fast delivery !!
I did test the spool and it spins like a top for hours of freespool !! Also note that Tom H sells clamp assy. for the new seats
Ted
I'll have to find a reel to put it on now. Amazing!!!
Thank you Ted
The box has arrived today, thanks again Justin for wanting me to have it.
I also want to thank Ted.
I've been getting boxes from this man for years and up to now I have never received one with just what was supposed to be in there, there is always extras.
Thank you Ted and Justin, this is very much appreciated.
Sal
If you've been following the wild and wacky ride of this amazing contest, you'll recall that I was declared the 3rd place winner... only to discover that a math error had been made and I actually didn't even make it to the 10 winners list. Oh the let-down! :'( Well, as it turns out, our unbelievably generous brother in reels, Ted, was gracious enough to take pity on me and send a box of goodies my way anyway, to ease the pain!
So, today, as I'm unpacking the box, there among the jars of tuna and a nice goblet, low and behold, there was... *** drum roll please *** a reel!!! Well, I am now the proud owner of my first Newell reel, a G332-F. I'm gonna be looking up some tutorials because I'd actually never even held a Newell before. And if I'm not mistaken, it has a brand new one of Ted's custom bases attached.
Wow folks, Ted has gone way above and beyond in his generosity to the Ohana with this contest. Thanks a million Ted!
You cannot expect anything less from Ted, he is one of the best. Dominick
WOW! Congrats Nelz...a Newell! Like you, I have never even held one, and who else but Ted would send one as a surprise gift. You're the best Ted! 8)
The Best of the Best of the Best! Sir!

.....also known as "The Ohana" ;)
Christmas in May! thanks Ted. as great as a holiday package that came from my Norwegian aunties kitchen when i was a child.
As promised, my "booby prize" arrived yesterday from Ted. Even his booby prizes are over the top. I got this sweet tin sign for the reel cave, a little reel wrench, and four jars of his killer Albacore. I know...I know...only three jars in the pic. The fourth jar succumbed to crackers, cheese, and beer. Thanks buddy...you da man! 8)
That sign is pretty cool ! That Ted is sure one of a kind,, ain't he ?!?

Looks like you have so granted!!!!! Good isn't it!!!!
Wayne
You rock Ted!
I never thought I'd have the chance to own such wonderful relics of Penn history!
I'm proud to have these boxed "A" series reels in my very small but growing collection!
Thanks again Ted!
It's like that toy surprise in a box of cracker jacks
You never know what you're gonna get !!

Ted, when was the last time you had Cracker Jacks? There is a piece of paper as the prize now. Dominick
Hey Dominick, I think Calvin Coolidge was president when Ted had Cracker Jack's last. ;D
Couldn't help myself, Ted :P
Dom
Easy There Dom. I remember the cool prizes that used to be in cracker jacks.
More like Jimmy Carter. ;D

They were simpler times. The coolest thing in the world when I was 10 years old was a box of Cracker Jacks and a pack of candy cigarettes. 8)
Lol, you're 100% right, Daron. I just had to poke a little fun. I remember them as well but don't tell anyone ;)
Simpler times indeed,
Dom
Just received a absolutely brand new Penn 1/0 Senator in the box, from Ted, in the mail today.
Thank You, Ted!
For some of you who may not know -- of the (10) Reel Senator series -- the little 110 (1/0) is the smallest.
And it has been discontinued by Penn for a good many years now.
Plus, this one has a rare 3-hole 24-55 crank with the very rare ivory knob and chocolate swirls.
What a great reel!
Thank You again, Ted!
Best Always,
Fred
She's a looker, all right !
Wow, that was a long time for delivery. Good to see it did finally arrive. 1/0 this nice are becoming almost non existent nowadays. I still have 1 new in box, so all is not lost !! I know you'll take good care of it Fred. Congrats on your contest win !!

Attn. all Ohana: all prizes must be remanded to Ted ASAP and the contest renewed. This all occurred whilst I was locked out of the site for a month...Bryan told me i had redirected too many times and erase all my cookies. Being that IT is above my interests and pay grade, I wiped out some chips ahoy and a quart of milk...and I was still locked out. Ted texted me as this was happening and I had no idea what he was talking about...as my wife is a nurse handling COVIDS, I have been sequestered in the woods for over a month and not turned on TV, and quit reading yahoo too. I ordered some boat parts off amazon and that's been about my only contact with 2020. So, I appreciate everyone's hard work but let this begin anew ;)
hat's off to my man Ted- first class all the way!
Sucks to be you don't it Johnny ¿?¿ ..... ;D ;D

I believe that right now -- and for perhaps the rest of this year -- the Post Office -- along with tens of thousands of other services and businesses -- will be using this pandemic deal as a way to excuse poor service. I have already seen this behavior and excuses -- in about 80% of everything I order online.
Exceptions that I have ordered from in the last 2 weeks -- that are still delivering as quickly as possible, are:
Chewy, Lands End, Wal-Mart, Amazon, BladeHQ, and Shepherd Hills. These Firms I will continue to appreciate and be loyal to after this crud is over. Some consumers don't track into this stuff -- but I do.
Ted, you shipped this reel as quickly as you could -- Appreciate that very much. For some unknown reason, it took (15) days!! -- to get from San Francisco to Auberry.
I am just surprised it was not all beat up -- package arrived in pristine condition.
It left Everett, Washington, on 5/20/20 -- arrived at our locking mailbox today -- 6/8/20.
Here is the tracking history -- just for fun --

I thought I would show you all what turned up in the post ( can't mention the exact date it arrived, due to the enquiry into "don-gate") ;D
So I managed to snare a prize in Teds wee competition, after 3 requested recounts and a judges final decision, off it went,
Until it arrived down under..
Absolutely superb, not only did I win the accurate Jigmaster frame, But Ted ALSO, threw in a suitable spool, which was not part of the original prize.
Plus, a couple of nice glasses for me to enjoy a nice cold frothy this summer ( Aussie for beer)
Thank you Thank you Ted, for your amazing kind generosity......
Col
Yes agree, Teds the man, Col why wait till summer, cheers Don.
Ay Col, come to think off it, your a glazier, you should be making glasses for Ted, but dont worry about me, I drink straight from the bottle, cheers Don.
Now Don - I thought you blokes "down under" drank your amber nectar from cans the size of an old automotive oil can? - john
They just smiled...and handed me a vegemite sammich. ;D :D 8)
HaHaHa guys...
Don, I tried to fit one of these glasses into your "don-gate reel box" but it didn't fit,
So, one of them is for you.
I just hope until I finally get over your neck of the woods, it doesn't suffer a mishap !!!
John, Yes they do drink out of huge vessel tin type things out west , there beer tastes horrible and they speak funny ;D
But there salt of the earth blokes, so we take that into consideration.....

Col
Good John, some of the amber, in the Northern Territory, Australia, have king brown bottle about 40 fluid oz bottle, Ruffy might be able to add to that.
In the West, we have 26 fluit oz bottles, but most outlets are stocking cans now days, I dont know why Col gets the impression our beer is crap, we love it, & the west produces most of the best AFL footballers & sports people.
As I said Col you keep the glass, I dont need it, But sure your welcome over here anytime, we will try to catch a Dhu fish, cheers Don.
Sorry Mike, did not mean to neglect your comment about the vegimite, its like a strong yeast, most people make the mistake, of spreading it on bread to thick, then it taste like crap, good fresh bread with butter of marg, & spread the vegimite on really thin, just so it gets your taste budds working, bloody good, & puts hair on your chest, trouble is most blokes are not like you & I, they aint got a chest, ha haa, keep well stay safe, cheers Don, have to go my beer time.
Hello Kim, Happy to hear the parcel made it to you unscathed. Your buddy obviously wants to go with you to try out your new reel. Hoping to get more albacore reeel soon. It is fun to fish and addicting to eat
