Title: How to clean up Penn plastic sideplates?
Post by: Hootchyman on June 17, 2018, 01:46:33 PM
Hello, This is the first post from me although I've read and learned plenty from the material posted here and now that I am pretty good at getting my old Penns running like new, I want to know if there is a way to restore the side plates when they have been oxidized/weathered by the sun/salt? Thanks, VR

You'll see many suggestions in the archives here. Armour All, oils, greases, rubbing compounds, you name it. My favorite is just a wipe with a plain old greasy rag. There is no substitute for nice mint plates though...that's a shine that's hard to replace when lost. 8)

^^ What Mo said, a good wipe with grease.  A small paintbrush will help with cracks and crevices.  I've found that grease will also temporarily restore the black color of plastic spools also.
