I just "won" a "penn 49" on e bay....probably won't have it in my hand till late next week, but, the suspense is killing me ! The main reason I made the offer was....the spool looks "different" from any of the others that I have, so ? Is it a "newer" type plastic spool ?
My 49 has that spool too Crow. The first catalog pic to show that spool was '52, so it must be a later version. 8)

Been seeing a few of these 49 reels being posted up of late, I have a 249, but not a 49 model.
It will find a nice spot in your collection I'm sure......
