Title: SLS 1?
Post by: conchydong on August 18, 2018, 11:51:29 PM
I have a SLS 1. It doesn't seem to be the quality of other DAM Quick reels. Was this model made in Germany or in Asia? And if any one has a main gear they would like to part with, I will be happy to take it off of your hands. The main gear on the one I have seems to be made of cast aluminum with teeth that interlock with the handle assembly and many of the teeth have sheared off due to corrosion of the aluminum. It seems like a cheap reel that is not worth investing a lot into but I still wouldn't mind fixing it for catching bait fish.

The SLS series was made in Japan in the late '70s & early '80's. You are correct on most of your perceptions about them.

Some sources claim Shimano made these reels for DAM, other say Daiwa.  If they are of lesser quality, I would have thought maybe a lesser manufacturer that Shimano or Daiwa, but I don't know that.

if the quality is really poor, I'd guess Olympic
they made some horrible trash in their final half-decade
