Title: Interchangeable parts for Jigmaster?
Post by: Beachmaster on June 09, 2020, 03:19:28 PM
I screwed up the stainless steel bridge on my Jigmaster last night while putting it back together.  The tiny dog spring that is attached to the post on the bridge I bent it out of whack beyond fixing it.  I am leaving for a trip on Friday morning of this week.  Is there another bridge and dog/spring combo that will fit the Jigmaster 500?  My only other option is to order something overnight...

If this would help, I could put this in the mail this morning at our Post Office -- and either overnight it to you -- or just go Priority which should reach you hopefully Thursday.

I installed a dog, new spring, plus a spare spring for you to stash away.

We can settle up later -- just let me know what you wish.

Best,

Fred

Also, if time is that much of a factor -- just head to your local sporting goods store, or Wal-Mart -- pick up a new 500L Jigmaster for $63 + tax -- go fishing -- and deal with this one you have an issue with later.

Plus, if you still want these parts -- and if they don't arrive due to the Post Office in time for your trip -- you have the new JM for a Plan B.  If the parts do arrive -- and you get it all together properly -- easy to just take the new JM back to the store for a full refund -- if not used.

Just thoughts and possible solutions -- not telling you what to do.

Best,

Fred

If you have a straight coil spring close to the same size, several Penn reels use them, you can bend the last coil and use it.

;D    Ball point pens and bic lighter have springs that may get you through the week end ..
Were are you ?  Maybe you have a fisherman neighbor .

Does that last coil insert into the post?  How does it attach to the post?

Yes, make it look like the original spring and mount it on the post.

ok, I'm going to give this a try.  I think I buggered it up because I was rotating the bridge like you do with all the other Penn while setting the spring with the dog and I think I am supposed to rotate bridge almost into place then set the spring?

Naw. Put the bridge/dog/spring all together like in Fred's picture, turn the bridge(with drag stack on it too)and head-plate both sideways and insert. An 0 ring or rubber band on the gear sleeve, right at the top of the drag spacer, can help hold everything down. If the dog spring is lose on it's stud, a TINY drop of super glue on the stud will hold it(clean oil/grease off stud first).

Ok I'm going to try this tonight. I have a 4/0 as a back up, although heavy to use from a kayak but it is what it is
