So I started off with these Penn Fierce 2 LiveLiner reels, which got some pretty good 'reviews' for being economical with aluminum body, shielded bearings. They have the same body, gears, etc between the fierce 2, fierce 3 and battle 2 reels. the differences is in the spools and drags. the fierce 2 has felt drags and so you can do an easy and cheap upgrade with the HT-100 drag washers from the Battle series.
dangit. pics out of order. let me try that again
this is the disassembly. you can see how the felt washers had the Penn blue grease on the "outermost" felt washer, on 1-side of the middle washer and the "innermost" was dry on both sides. the spool surface with the innermost felt is completely dry.
I put Cal's on all surfaces and put it back together.
this is the replacement BTL-3000 HT-100 washers
reel #2 had Penn blue grease on all of the felt washers. Compare to the felt washers of reel #1. I've only had surf perch and rockfish on these, so no real drag "testers" so far...
