how does one actually access the gear side plate on this reel? seems to be impossible, well it appears to be. the palmside was simple enough. any thoughts?

it's been years since i've worked on one of these. it looks like you just start from the handle nut and work your way in. alan
alan thank you for the link, but i too had that. i can remove the lock ring that sits below the crank. i concede on this reel. simply not worthy...
If you are stuck on the lock ring you might consider yourself lucky you didn't get any farther:) A lot of folks won't touch them but they aren't all that bad. Here is a link that should help a great deal. Do take lots of pictures and notes. They aren't quite like anything else you have seen in a fishing reel!
