Title: repainting newell sideplates??
Post by: HxC Mullet on September 29, 2015, 05:30:15 PM
Anyone have any good tips or suggestions on a way to remove the factory paint and repaint a newell's sideplates with new a paint? Any particular paint removers, brand of paints, primers, clear coats, etc...? Would like to get a good coat to where it would be less likely to come off from normal wear. What do y'all think?

Thanks.  ;D

I think the color is molded in, and the only paint is on the emblems. you would just have to paint over as it is. someone please correct me if i'm  wrong....

Correct, the color is molded in except emblems.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks. Anyone ever tried to custom paint one? If so how'd it turn out?

If you get a hold of any P or G series reels with alumanim parts those can be repainted pretty easy, use a BBQ black color & bake them in the oven @ 350 degrees for about 1 hour. The finish looks like new & is pretty tough, meaning it does not scrap right off.
