Title: 9/0 115L setup
Post by: swill88 on August 23, 2015, 02:32:57 AM
Hi everybody...

Hoping to get feedback on balancing my latest acquisition. Never had a reel this size before.

Got Tom's 9/0 frame on a clean reel with Sal's handle from Adam and Alan's 5/0 grip.
Haven't put any line on it or tested the drag so I'm a bit clueless on the parameters for this reel.
I'm thinking 60-80# mono on a 5-6' trolling  rod.
Do I want a  30-80# or 60-130# rod? Roller guides?
If I'm way off the mark please chime in!

Will be used for Baja inshore and offshore and San Diego long range.

Planning to get an ss gear sleeve, upgrade the drags, and double dogs.

Impulse purchase.   Thanks for your opinions.

Steve

As far as the rod is concerned I would go no higher than a 30/80 rod and 5'9" long. This way you have the rod doing some work for you. The heavier rod is just too heavy.
