Title: Help removing main gear - Penn 70VS
Post by: Capt. ahab on April 10, 2021, 01:58:21 PM
I picked up a Penn 70VS on eBay from Japan.  It has Japanese stickers all over it, and the Penn box had English & Japanese writing.  It seems to differ from the Penn 70VS in the sticky.

Here's the schematic I'm working with - http://schematics.mikesreelrepair.com/albums/penn/Penn_INTERNATIONAL_70VS_SERIAL_NO_C060700_AND_BEFORE_REV_17_Schematic.pdf

I cannot remove the main gear; there is a bridge bushing #98 that prevents me from pulling the gear stud #134 out from inside the right side plate.  Any ideas where to go from here?

Attached photo shows the silver bridge bushing that's blocking the bronze gear stud.

As I recall, there is a C-clip (part 195) on the on the shaft recessed in the high speed main gears to release the drive shaft.
