Was wondering what was going on with the 112h double dog bridges in stainless. Is the project still going forward???
I'd be interested in one.
I doubt if Alan would attempt it, the 112H doesn't share its bridge with any others. A 501 gets very close to the 112H :-\.
Even though not needed, I wouldn't mind having the 3-200 with two dogs, those would be nice, or maybe the 3-66, those share more reels yet. Most reels that I fish with use the 3-200, that one would make me happy ;D.
There are a lot of 112H reels out there though, mine are both Tiberone framed 112HNs. Double dogged SS bridge plates for 112H and Surfmasters would be nice.
Yes it would still be nice, I just don't think he would go for it, but you never know. :-\
I've been pretty inactive on the website for months. I missed this post when it went up. I would definitely buy one of these. I wonder what the break even number of sales would be?
I would definetely buy 2 or 3
Same here
At least 2 for me ...
Cool
The sample should be done soon, and it will be sent to Sal for testing.
This is great news....
I have to agree... this is good news. 3 for me, please. Once Sal gives it the thumbs up, of course.
Now all we need are some CC plates for these babies and we're in business, hint, hint, Tom. ;)
Keep us posted, Sal. Thanks for making these, Alan.
Dom
So all the custom 500 parts will work and this is the missing link? I'd be in for 2
Great news, put me down for 2.
farmer 56 here ..... three for me

thanks, .. Lou
I can do one.
Thanks,

Here is the SS 112H double Dog bridge. It is going to ship to Sal for testing.

Count me in for three when you make the production run.
Thanks
One for me also...................Joe
I received the 112H bridge for testing
(https://i.imgur.com/RRnDfbl.jpg?1)
Unfortunately the curved dog on the right and the pin for the spring on the left are hitting the plate.
To make the custom bridge work it requires a little grinding as I'm showing with the arrows
(https://i.imgur.com/nc75DYJ.jpg)
It's approx.3/8" on the right and about 1/8" on the left.
Considering how easy everything else would follow, I personally could deal with it, but not sure about the rest of you guys.
Also, keep in mind these small details could be ironed out when the aluminum plates become available.
The screws line up perfectly after the minor grinding and everything is working nicely.
I spoke with Alan, it is now up to him if he wants to proceed with these.
I just received the latest 112H double dog bridge.
The dog pin showing on the right has been moved up a little and the dog itself has been modified.
The spring pin I'm pointing with the arrow will hit a little on some plates, all you need to do is remove a tiny bit of material there, everything else should work as it should.
This bridge does not need any modification when used in Tom's custom plates.
Sal
Dont tease us - spill the beans! Whats up with the drilled main gear???
Since it is not a dropped in item, I don't know if I should make this item.
Sal,
I'm a little concerned with the angle of engagement of the dog on the right. It looks like if there's a bit of flex or wear there could be the possibilty of the tooth forcing it backward and binding. Probably not, but if it's possible, it might be good to move the dog pivot pin a bit as shown.
What do you think?
Alan,
Don't be discouraged from selling these just yet. This is a prototype, I'm sure you'll get a lot of input here that might help fine tune the design. ;)
Alan, can't it be redesigned to fit a factory original side plate? A 112h plate is a larger diameter plate then a jigmaster plate. Rudy

Anything can be redisigned, but is it worth it for the guy doing this? Alan is always trying to keep cost down, so I'm not sure.
If you look at the first pic, the one I'm showing 4 bridge, I already marked the spot that would make it a drop in unit, but again it might be more than what Alan would want to do on this one.
Alan is using the Jigmaster bridge and repositioning the top two holes...very clever if you ask me.
The 112h would use the same dogs as the jigmaster, I call that a good thing.

I hear you Chad, but you have nothing to worry about. these Jigmasters have been fished for 4-5 years now with no issues on that dog.
If you use the 8 tooth gear sleeve, that dog makes better contact, but both work just fine.

Dont tease us - spill the beans! Whats up with the drilled main gear???
Drilled gears were supposed to go in production, for the Jigmaster and the 113H. During tests, I noticed the washer for under the gear was getting damaged, so Alan decided to scrap those.
I have a couple of both and made them work, but required lots of sanding at the bottom and around the holes.
Sal
Ok cool Sal, makes sense to me :)
Thanks for clearing that up!
Personally I don't care if I have to do some fitting. I just want to get on with it. I have seen what manufacturers say about drop in parts for guns. Well it's not as simple as drop and go, most times you have to alter or at least fit the part to that particulate gun.
It takes time to make parts that are every thing fits all, and time is money..............................Joe
Yup! I'm with you on this one Joe.
I have 112h's with double dogs, trying to cover the spring on those is easier said than done.
I would not mind doing a little grinding, it actually only takes a couple of minutes, especially now that I've found where it was hitting.
Sal
I would rather refit the dogs if it is a matter of shortening the original dogs. It's easier to file or grind the dogs a little then dremeling out the plates. Or even make different dogs for the 112h. It shouldn't cost any more then the jigmaster bridges which had to be designed from scratch. They are going to have to make the plate anyhow so putting the pins in a different location will involve the same amount of time & material as when they manufactured the jigmaster bridge. As I said I would rather have a drop in bridge with minor fitting. I'm in if a little filing is needed but I'm out if I have to cutout the sideplates. Interchangeability is the name of the game for more sales. JMO
It looks like the plate work is alot less than double dogging on the bridge screws. It understandable that alan is hesitant to put a product out there that isnt a drop in. There will always be the guys that will complain if it doesn't work without tweaking. There are far fewer 112Hs then Jiggies and the development cost may not be worth it.
I've wanted yoke and eccentric plates for squidder, surfmasters so I sent out for a few bids on hardened stainless parts 200 quantity each. The cost with samples, QC and customs was crazy. So I appreciate Alan's investment in bringing after market parts to market for us to pimp our reels out.
Having said that I would still take two and do the plate work.
I was going to stamp out the plate, but it has to be around 1000 pieces, and it is not worth it. So, the alternative processing will be machine cut. The cost will be higher. It will be around $49.00 each.
Let see who would like to order it I will need the payment up front before I confirm this item is a go.
Let me know.
Alan, which way are you looking to go? Cutting the side plate or drop in? Rudy
Put me down for 1 for my narrow 3/0. I up for a little plate grinding. Let me know when you need the $. Thanks Sheridan

Hi Joe,
I don't have any. Sorry!
I'm still in for 2 either way. If I have to carve the sideplate, so be it. The modification will be on the inside, so I'm the only one that will see it.
I'm really getting into this whole hot-rodding gig and am having a blast challenging myself in new ways...
Thanks again for creating these really awesome products!

I will need both side rings and left sideplate.
Then, I will check with my guy on that.
Use the original dog on one side and just have one on the bridge. Allot less to modify in the end.

You could, but it would be a heck of a lot more work installing the bridge. Having the dogs pre-set on the bridge is always a better option, instead of having them lose.

If you have one dog to deal with you can move it out of the way so no extra work needed. If people have to modify their plates they won't use it.

If that the case , why even bother then, they could just get a ss sleeve and a ss dog from Lee and call it a day.
Is there any examples of a broken ss dog or bridge in a 112h?? Not worn out but broken. A 112h will probably take twice the amount of drag available & still not break. The way I see it the double dogs just decrease the backlash in the handle if set them up to alternate. JMO
Double dog bridge is one of the things we can do to the 112H so we can. If for any reason someone doesn't want to do that then he or she just passes.
Joe

Yes you are correct on the backlash, but it is also good to have the second dog for backup and strength, especially with the upgraded gears and drag washers available to us today, that produce way more drag.
Seven years ago this guy had this idea to do this:
http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=3077.msg19705#msg19705
I believe it was and is still a great idea, even better for larger reels.
I must not be the only one that believes so , because it spread like wild fire and still going strong today.
The good thing about this is that we have both options, so as Joe just mentioned, it's out there for anyone to chose what they would like on their reels.
Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I haven't noticed anyone twisting anyone's arm.
Sal
Alternating dogs--better, with one as a back-up dog--better'er. You never know fer sure at my level of experience if the spring's gonna stay put on either of the dogs, once I've played with it.
Test failure's ok, but not failure out on the water. Have dremel, will modify, but could be a b____h, if you screw up your only plate.
Assembly of the reel and installation of double-dogs(on the bridge plate screws, not drop-in) is fun, but could be pretty frustrating if yer not used to Penn head-plate assembly.
Based mainly on what I've read here, I think single dogs in good working order should be enough anti-reverse. A bakelite side-plate cracking 'cause a AR pressure pushin on the bridge-plate screw, anyone ever experience that?
Which ever way we go, I am in.
I am still in for two.
farmer 56 here .... i want three ..... pay in advance pay later don't care ... what ever you want to do ... i would vote for alternating dogs .... carving side plate or not makes no diff. ..... but drop in is nice ... dennis
This item is a go. You will need to take some meat off from inside of the right sideplate to make it works.
If you use Tom's new sideplate, please check with Tom on that. I know that Sal sent this 112H DD bridge to Tom to see if he can make it as a drop in with his 112H sideplate.
Since this item is not going to be stamped out, it is machine cutting. Therefore, the cost is much higher.
The cost is $54.99 each including shipping. Only 80 pieces will be available. The item will be ready in 50 days. I will require payment first on this item.
If you would like to order this, please send email to sales@prochallenger.com and let me know if the order will be shipped within FL because there is 7% sale tax will be added.

Chief, are you sure? I 've done many things here, but talking about the 112H bridge seven years agois something I don't remember.
You might be right though :-\
I think it was Salty Dog who did the first 112H DD on this forum. Nobody ever found out what happened to him
Rudy.
I think Ron mentioned the double dog bridge and not the double dog installation, that would be something different.
Sal
Sal, you were the one that started it all with the DD 113H. I was refering to Salty Dog doing the first 112H DD after you started how to do it. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Rudy

It's not a big deal, we work as a team here, this is why I adjusted my comment above.
Most do believe the 113h Tank was the first double dog, but it was actually the 114H.🙂

I'll be using this bridge in the extra narrow frame and am adding a 10 tooth SS gear sleeve. I hoping to have the dogs alternating. How to get it to do that ? Do I need to shorten one of the dogs a little? I don't need a ton of drag so one dog should be sufficient. Thanks Sheridan

I don't know if anyone has tested this bridge yet, but on Alan's other bridges to get alternating dogs you'll need an 8 tooth gear sleeve. 8)
Correction: This info came from Mystic's site, which appears to be "backwards". In truth...use 8 tooth for simultaneous and 10 tooth for alternating.

Mo, I wondered why one of my jigmasters with alan's dd bridge was alternating with an 8 tooth ss sleeve, now I know, thanks!!! Darin
EVery double dog setup I've seen could be made to alternate by shortening one of the dogs, I'm sure it can be done if you want to keep the 10-tooth sleeve.

Sheridan,
If you use 10 tooth sleeve on this 112H bridge, it will be alternate dogging. Please see the picture on this thread http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=26366.0 (http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=26366.0)
Thanks Alan, that's perfect
That works out really nice! However, it looks like the longer dog could be trimmed a hair to equalize the amount of rotation between the engagement of each dog.
Thanks Chad I'll check it out tonight
If that is a problem, you could shorten the other dog to get the timing rite.
