When I was growing up, if you had a plastic spool and were lucky enough to catch a large fish, then you would wind the line off and back on after you got home.  Otherwise, you could have a popped spool by the next time you went fishing.  A pleasant ritual given the circumstances.

Quote from: Reeltyme on April 29, 2024, 11:24:26 PMHow about a 2 year old Shimano Twin Power 8000 - parts discontinued!

Seems really odd, what model Twin Power and when?

Quote from: boon on April 29, 2024, 10:24:10 PMI mean that model is, give or take, 43 years old. How long is reasonable for a brand to keep parts for?

I dunno.  They advertised it as having a "never fail bail", so the obvious answer is as long as there is any demand.

Frank

I think we have different levels of "reasonable". My version doesn't extend to a manufacturer maintaining a functionally indefinite inventory of parts just in case someone out there is still using a reel they haven't produced for 3 decades... especially when it's a reel that was $25 new.

The people who have it slip don't try as hard as you... which is why it slips!

Thank you!
Very confident, now, I can tear into my no.2 Altex without issue.
Lots of parts, but really not too bad.
I thought my Swiss made 1954 2 speed Benora Standard was far more tricky, but I didn't have to make any specialtools for it and it came out sweet. Lol

Spoke with the fine folks at the Tornado today. To cover the boat, the tip, and fish processing I will need $1090.00 by May 15th. Please send me a PM so we can work out the payment method. I prefer Zelle, but I can work with PayPal or Venmo.

Can't wait for the trip,
Nick

When I was a kid my dad's hands would swell up from bits of shrapnel that would work their way out. Leftovers from being shot down a couple times.
