Hey everyone, I'm a newby here ... After reading a few posts, I decided to order a few specialized tools, not normally available @ my local hardware store.
1. Alan's " Bearing Packer & Needle Kit " .
2. Reel Speed " Bearing Puller Kit ".
I received my new " Bearing Puller Kit " today, and began tinkering with it. I immediately notice a bit of uneven coating ( Anodizing ?) on a few of the Nut Pullers (?).
On closer inspection, it appears to be surface rust, which was also inside the threads.
I assembled them on the threaded T- Wrench, to make sure they worked & tried cleaning them up with some protective oil before storing them for future use.

This one had a some debris (Thread Metal Shaving ?) , which I removed & cleaned.
The " Bearing Puller kit ' didn't come with a storage box,..So, I looked around the garage and made one, actually two :)

11" x 5 3/4 " Cigar Box
I decided on a larger box to add my custom " Bearing Packers ".

11 1/2 " X 7 3/4 " Cigar Box
I'm slightly disappointed with the finish on the " Bearing Pullers " .. for what was " Advertised " & purchased as a " NEW " ( Amazon ) item. :-\
I don't blame you -- I would ask for a new set.
You will not have any issues with Alan's tools.
Welcome by the way & good photos.
Glad to have you on board.
Best,
Fred
Sorry you're dealing with the rust issue Perro, I've been using mine for almost a year and never wiped them down or added oil, mine do not show any rust :-\.
Here is a pic or two of my set:

I'm not sure what's going on with yours, but as for functionality, I still recommend this tool. To me it is still one of the best tool I own.
Sal
I'm not one to " Nit-pick ", just sharing what arrived at my doorstep.
Yours look like " NEW ",.. compared to the set I received. :-\
Hopefully my set, will function as well as yours ....?
No, I'm not arguing with you, you have every right to be upset, I would be. You should get what you've paid for. I just didn't get it why mine didn't look the same, I've been using them quite a bit and never cleaned them.
Did you contact Aaron?
I'm new here :)
I'm not " Upset / Mad , etc " ..just pointing out my disappointment with the Finish.
Again.. " Yours look like new.. compared to what arrived at my doorstep " .. It wasn't meant as an argument !
Just pointing out a few " Photo Facts " ;)
Gotcha!...welcome by the way.
I hope your next experience with buying or anything else here will be a good one, most of them are. Thanks for showing the pics, I'm sure they will help in the future.
Sal
Okay ... So, I tried cleaning the rust ( Corrosion ) off,..but it's pretty well set in on three of the " Bearing Puller Nuts " ( ? ).

I sent the vendor a message. I'll send this one back,.. with a request for a " NEWER.. " ( Better ) set.

If you purchased them from Amazon, it's possible that the corrosion is from storage in WA where Amazon's warehouse is located. I'm not sure if Aaron provided the puller kit with those anti-corrosion boards.
YUP .. Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HZV1LP0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hopefully, they will send me a replacement from their " Santa Fe Springs " location, which is closer to me," Valencia, CA ".
HMMM.. I might place another order for a " Spool Pin Pliers ".. ;)
http://reelspeed.net
There were " No Anti-Corrosion Boards ", in the Delivery Box.
Mine were not corroded either and they came from Aaron. The pin pliers are the best I have ever used.
You should have no issues with Aaron or Amazon.
That is the nice thing about dealing with good companies.
Best,
Fred
I'd send that set back for a new one... Hope Amazon does better than Aaron when it comes to communication.
Welcome to the greatest site in the world!
Good luck,
Dom
OK, welcome and let me be the first to say that your frenched foam cigar box tool case is superb!! All you need now is a Jack Daniels bottle filled with TSI to go with it and it will say it all rite there.
Ron
I personally don't drink hard liquor... I'm more of a " Micro Brew " Beer drinker.. with the traditional beer belly to prove it ;)
The wife on the other hand likes her " Rum " & " Grand Marnier ".
That stuff was so expensive ( CUVÉE DU CENT CINQUANTENAIRE ).. I refused to throw the empty bottles away... :o
(http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j161/A-PAPI/IMG_2170-1.jpg)
So , I made them into lamps for my small travel Trailer.
HMMM, I might have another for a future project ....?
P.S.: I gave up smoking cigars years ago :(
By the way.. I received an e-mail response from " Aaron ". He has agreed to a swap for " NEW " parts.
So,everytting is " GOOD ", it will all work out. :)
Hey PERRO, nice job on repurposing those bottles. Who's the artist, that paint job is great !
The bottles are sold as you see them.. very nicely hand painted.

Grand Marnier Cuvée du Cent Cinquantenaire 750ml
It's expensive, but very smooth for sipping.
My wife likes a sip of Grand Marnier (less expensive), with a side glass of top shelf Tequila :o
http://www.crownwineandspirits.com/grand-marnier-cordon-rouge-750ml/
I've acquired a few bottles of the expensive stuff over the years, for very, very special occasions @ home.
My wife sips on a bit @ home and asks me : " Would you like some ? "
I responded: " NOPE, can't afford the stuff..I'll have a few beers ". ;D
UPDATE:
Just received in todays mail: Bearing Puller " Replacement Tips "
1. 1/8
2. 3/16 4mm
3. 5/32 5mm
Bottom Row
(http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j161/A-PAPI/IMG_1442_edited-1_zps9fb14687.jpg)
I've added a " Blak Dog ABU 4500 - 6500 IAR Bearing Removal Tool ": Lft bottom corner.
So reading about bearing pullers and having a stuck bearing I plunked down my card and one was delivered today. Now my little piece of spring steel hammered with a nice flat lip did nothing on this bearing. The bearing was fine, just stuck. I'm sure you all know that if you are challenged by a stupid piece of metal that piece of metal is likely to lose. There may be personal injury involved but the metal will yield.
So I went straight to the shop, tried all the fittings like a kid on Christmas morning. I immediately tried to pull the stubborn bearing and the tool slipped out. Hmmm. Must not have it tight enough. So out came the wrench and I put the device to maximum depth. It slipped again.
Hmmmm. So off to the grinder I went, not with the expensive tool but rather with an old Shimano wrench. I ground it down and used the low cost alternative to pop out the bearing.
Morale of the story, grind first, Amazon second.
The winner is marked in red.

So are there larger fittings available for this puller? I must have done something wrong.
I'm still trying to run into one as yours, just to see for myself, so far... no luck. I serviced many reels since I purchased the mini puller, it pulled everyone of the bearings out with no problems.
I don't even bother pull the retainer washer anymore, it comes right out with the bearing.

I've been using this set for almost 5 years and wouldn't want to be without it. The tip on the 1/8 is really getting a workout and wanted to get an extra one.
I found the replacement parts on line.
I'm not sure how many are still available, but just in case some of you are also looking for an extra tip, here is where I got mine from:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YX1WCB
Sal
Thanks Sal I got the last 1/8...
Sal
Do you have the Puller with the Sliding Hammer?
Mike
Yes Mike, I have the gold, I also had the very first kit and gave it to my brother. I don't remember if that one also had the sliding hammer, but if it didn't it would be easy to make it work with something else as weight. I picked up a tip fo him as well.
I think Aaron had one mini puller in stock, but I'm not 100% on it.
Sal
I'll just drill out a flat 12 oz. Sinker to fit the shaft.
Mike
Good idea Mike, that would do it.
Sal
Where on Amazon are you finding these? I can only find the replacement parts.

Hello David, I have mentioned finding replacement tips on Amazan, as for the mini pullers, Aaron told me he had one left.
The reason I posted I wasn't 100% sure on it is that I'm not sure if someone has purchased it up already.
If you are looking for one the best option would be for you to contact Aaron : reelspeed@yahoo.com
Sal
FYI, last week I ordered the bearing puller and tips and the stand ( not sure why I ordered the stand... maybe it's the pain meds I was on) from Amazon and all was showing in stock.
Yesterday the package arrived with the stand and 1 tip. I've got an inquiry in to Aron though Amazon. Don't want a refund just the product.
So I see this tool (bearing puller) and I am wondering if I need one. I mainly clean bass baitcasting reels and there are times when the bearings are stuck in the side plate. With that said, is this tool the solution for these type of bearings, or is this tool for really big bearings. I am looking for an easier way to get these bearings out without trying to pry them out with a pick. Any help will be appreciated, or if you have a better way to solve my dilemma. Pardon my ignorance on this tool, but how does this really work. Thank You in advance
If you can get a set of Reelspeed bearing pullers do it. The smaller the bearing the more you need these. The larger bearings are easier to get out with other tools.
The 1/8" and 3mm size is the most used in my set.

Thank You fore the help and info. One other thing. Do you have a model number of the set that I should get, and/or a place to buy the set. A website link would work also.
Thanks Again for the reply.
Hi,
Does anyone know if these (Bearing Puller sets) are still available?
I got no reply from Reel Speed
They were available on Amazon maybe 6 months ago. The description and pricing were not very clear so I ended up returning everything. Priced too high for me.
Does not seem to be available anymore. Too bad! Anyone know of an alternative?
