Part of the development of the three "tuna specials" in this series included an hour-long discussion between Alan and PENN's chief rod engineer Cameron Kaihara, at the Fred Hall Show a couple of years ago.
Just thought I'd show a "bendo" shot of the 80-130 model from aboard the Pacifica out of Seaforth Landing; something to liven up your New Year's Day!
Unfortunately, I need to change the name of the "Guadalupe Special".
So far, the most popular choices are "Yellowfin Special", and "Alijos Special", but I am open.
Suggestions?

someday i'd like a chance to pull on these rods. i just made a portable "rod torture rack."
I like Alijos.

Ha-Ha, we had all of them in the booth at the PCS Show!
BTW, PENN rods won't carry anybody's actual name,
A number of well-known San Diego long-range captains had major input on this series, not to mention Alan, and several San Diego-area tackle shop owners.
Interestingly, about 20 years ago, PENN issued a series of rods [6 or 8 actions] with a prominent tournament anglers' name. It was not successful; they won't do that again.
Well, we COULD put MY name on it.................
Hmmm, that's a definite no!
I second Alijos, 60 is great for down there. I'd like a CARWCIII4080C90DHS please

The model CARWCIII3060C76 is already the "Bluefin Special"; could be confusing.
These rods look awesome. Now just put Lee's fathom on there to sell as a combo and you got a 28 letter name.

The stock numbers are intimidating at first, but they are actually very descriptive.
CARWCIII3060C80 is:
CAR [Carnage series] WC [west coast models] III [Gen3] 3060 [rated for 30-60 pound mono] C [conventional guides] 80 [8 feet, zero inches long]
It beats trying to remember numbers that have no real meaning, no matter how traditional they are to some of us.
If you think about it, 196-8L or even 6455XXH in a long string of other models in a catalogue can be hard to remember specs for.

My only Fathom LD reel is a FTHII10XNLD2 (a ABU 5600 size 2 speed reel) on a tiny Carnage CARSPJIII100C68L light slow pitch rod. I want a 9' CARWCIII2550C90 for fishing as a 40# surface iron rod with my TRQ15XNLD2 reel. They are currently out of stock.
CARWCIII2550C90 sounds like the business, must have been in Part I, that I haven't found. Just get rid of the reel seat please.

You are correct, it is in Part 1 [just a bit further down the page, but I'll bump it], and is nicknamed "Surface Iron Special".
