Alan, i'd like a spot for trip #1 as a new guy. Thanks, Rich
#1 for me
Cost?
don't know for sure. we will find out later. the 2019 trip is $2410, but that is for two guys per panga, not three. it includes air fare fro tijuana to cedros and back, and fish processing. we are limited to 35 to 50 pounds of fish each on the return flight. the plane can only hold so much. we have to get from home to san diego and back on our own.
When will we know about the date of the second trip? I vote November.

Thanks for getting back to me.....
I'm gonna have to pass, a little to pricey.......
Put me in coach! I would sign up for both but "work" and funds are never a sure thing.
rosie has to let us know. her lodge has become so popular that most all of the dates are full.
I would love to join you guys. But I don't think I should be on an open boat without shade for a lengthy period of time.
Last year I tried real hard not to burn. Everything was fine except my lips. Had never had sun burnt lips before, it sucks.
The Man
Alan, like I said in the other thread change the location to Mag Bay and I'm down
I get that a lot of people don't get to experience the type of fishing Cedros offers, but Mag Bay is a whole different can of worms. True Long Range stuff with wahoo, marlin, sailfish, maybe tuna, grouper and miles of mangroves full of snook and bones if one wants to stay inside of if the weather says they should.
There is time to look at something like this, but not a lot of outfitters and places to stay in that time frame. So one must book way sooner than say fishing Cedros.
I like the chance of catching 30-50 lb wahoo over 7-10 lb bass and 20-30 yt any day.
I know you are busy now but just give it a little thought and research before you look at another Cedros trip.
Can you fly down to Mag Bay? I've been in there a few times on long range trips to make bait. I see some of the fish guys fishing out of there get and it looks great!
Alan, Ill take a spot on either trip--prefer sept
Craig Arsell (Mook) signing up for 2020....

You fly into Loreto and shuttle over to Mag bay.
Edit or La Paz depending where you want to fly into.
Wow, that's a long way!
About a 2 hr shuttle from Loreto to Lopez Mateo.
I'm in for the Sept trip in 2020. Mag Bay sounds interesting, too.
Alan, Please put me on the 2020 wait list. August dates preferred but Nov might work as well. Thanks! jP
I'll do one of them, I'm hoping for November.

Hey Boss,
If eligible, I'd like to sign up for the August 2020 trip. Thanks.
Had a great time on the 2019 adventure.

We have knowledgeable local panga captains with world class fishing and so much more!

If there's a spot, I'll go September. Otherwise, put me in for June. Seems a little early for Cedros, but I'll have fun regardless.

I agree ......................... put Ron in for June. I'll go in September though. :D

Put me on the Sep 2020 list if there's an open spot. I thought I had already signed up but I don't see my name anywhere.

Hi Alan,
I had a great time this year but taking my son again on our now annual trip. He has to get back to college by Aug 20 or so. We are going earlier in August.
cheers,

Ed: who will stay up past 9 pm for drinks with me now that your not coming??

Todd,
I'm going to miss the wild late night (after 9p) parties plus the great Canadian stories! I'm sure you'll have a great trip. I will be there with my son a couple weeks before and will post conditions and report which might help you guys out. I love Cedros!
Cheers,
Ed
What about Gordo ?? He does not stay up late but he has a lot of jigs !!! ;D

I just found a new Lexa WN-400H for $144 for next year's trip. I hope this makes me a little better at tossing surface iron than I am with my Penn spinning reels. I plan on pairing it with my Okuma PCH-C-801H rod.
Well, hopefully the YT bite next year is so good that we will be too busy bringing in bait-caught fish that we won't need to wear out our arms slinging iron. But the new reel is just in case.
That combo should work fine at Cedros. I've caught a lot of YT with my original Lexa 400hs-p. The Winn edition is the original version with cosmetic updates. The Canook (Todd/Hardy Boy) was using my Lexa HD 400hs-p last year while I was using the TranX 500 hg.
That combo with the Lexa that Mark lent me, cast like a dream. Hope I get the same rental deal again !!

Nah. Just bring one of those Canadian hose-reels that you use for salmon, and use it for the YT! ;D
A single action mooching reel for a yellowtail would be asking for some bloody knuckles and maybe a broken finger or two !! ............................. might be fun to try.

I dunno, demand is up so I think I'll have to double the rental rate for 2020.
I can afford even triple what you charged me the last two times ! ;D

I found this out, dipped my fly reel in the water in total darkness at 2 am waist high in water casting for salmon in upper Michigan.
Hit a 20lber chinook and all I could hear was rat tat tat tat tat of my knuckles being waken up, the drag was non-existent with water in it.
Not sure if a mooching reel it be any worse than a centerpin I was holding (pin cuz I had no drag at all)
Put me in at #15... Ya never know. jP
So a few weeks ago I got the nod from Alan that a spot was mine if I wanted it. I mailed in my deposit, then the quarantine stuff hit the same week and a lot a preoccupation with other things happened. But now I have finally started working on my gear and prepping for the trip. First order of business for me it is to get some casting practice. I've been working on my salt water gear for a few years now, hit a trip for rock fish in central Cali with Alan and the guys a couple years ago and have spent the remainder preparing for a trip like this. I'm going to use the gear I already own, which may not be a perfect fit, but I'm gonna work with it. The old saying of "beware the guy with only one gun, for he may know how to use it", I'll try to get good with what I have.
The plan is to cast for at least 30 minutes per session with different setups and rigs, two sessions per week. The pg 255 on a 7'6" rod with 50lb braid works very well for me, easy and consistent to cast with various lures. The pg cs500 is a close second, set up on a matching rod but with different 50lb braid. I am also working with a 9' jig stick and the pro challenger jiggy i built with parts from the forum members. It casts well, but ease of casting and distance wise, it's currently not adding either to the equation.
You could do worse than those three setups. Looking forward to meeting you.
I recommend working on casting consistency. 30 or so yards with no birds nest over and over is way better than 50+ yards with a bird's nest every other cast. Just take it easy and fix one thing at a time.
If you can, cast different weights and cast them into and with the wind. The more you cast and get smooth the more fun you'll have at Cedros.
The Man
Ron,
Thanks for the advice, I agree about the consistency thing, especially with the differing conditions we will face on the water that I cannot duplicater here in the AZ desert. I'll make the conditions as tough as I can here.
Looking forward to meeting the whole crew.
Rich
If you get good throwing the Tady 45 you'll be fine.
Looking forward to meeting you at the airport on our way south, Rich. You might want to bring the two 50lb setups for the yellowtail, and a third lighter setup for the calicos, sheephead, bonito, etc. Maybe just bring some 20-25lb leader for the Jigmaster for when the yellows aren't biting.
Rich
Hope everyone had a great 4th. Just wondering if our Cedros trip is still going forward August 31?
yes, as far as we know. cedros is closed to all tourists until sometime in august. who knows how that will go.
Thanks Alan. I hope so. My trial has been continued until April 2021, so I can go.
:)
Great to hear!!!
Have you heard anything about Cedros? I saw the airstrip is due to open at the end of August.
nothing, but i am hopeful.
Its going to be nip and tuck with the latest border closure until Aug 21. There is serious talk about further extensions with the latest surge in your neck of the woods.
Cheers:
Todd
Well guys I had to pull the pin and cancel. Too much stuff up in the air with quarantine for 14 days when I return, plus there may be issues with me crossing the Mex/USA border at CBX being a Canadian. Rosie was not sure how or if that would work as its a land crossing and I'm not from either country. Talking to Rosie I also learned that the trips have been cancelled so far this year because the runway at Cedros needs to be repaired. She said they have been talking about it for months, so far nothing has been done and no plan is in place and no work has started. .......................... Well there is always next time ! :'(
Cheers:
Todd
Dang,
I'll hold out for the oficial word, but I feel sorry for Rosie and her crew. This has got to be hard.
The Man
Todd, you got the jump on the rest of us. I just got an email from Rosie saying that the 2020 trip is cancelled and she hopes to see us next year. All things considered, this is probably a good outcome. Let's hope that this whole covid business is behind us at this time next year and we can get back to yellowtail fishing!
i have asked that rosie send checks back to everyone.
QuoteHello My Friends,
I am devastated to inform you that your upcoming fishing trip has been cancel. Ugh...
There was a meeting yesterday in Ensenada regarding the repairs needed to the runway on Cedros Island, and all the "powers that be" were in attendance. A week before this meeting, the Mexican Government had approved a budget which included businesses on the island pitching in...well, long story short, we don't have a timeframe as to when the repairs will start...or when they will be finished, but the next meeting is September 12th. Obviously, this means repairs probably will not start until the end of September.
With that being said, please let me know if you would like to rollover your deposit to the 2021 season or if you would like a refund. All rollover deposits will not only hold your spot, but will hold the 2020 pricing. (We are not sure if the pricing will be different in 2021, not sure if our vendors will increase our cost..airlines, concierge service, etc.)
We appreciate each and everyone of you for being apart of our Cedros Sportfishing Family. Thank you so much for hanging in there with us.
Stay Well!

Well, I'm disappointed but not surprised. There's always next year!
Was really looking forward to this. If nothing else it gives me more vacation time to drive down the coast for the SOA trip.
The Man
I just signed up for another 10 day. I was only going once this year but with Cedros Sportfishing and Marlas Sportfishing (Puerto Vallarta) trips both being cancelled I have the vacation time and funds to go again!
Darn!!!!! I'm supposed to be sitting in the ATL airport about now ready to board my flight to SD/CBX/Cedros. And the Vagabond and Miguel's. I even miss you turkeys!
At least we can't blame this cancellation on Covid. I'm having deep sea fishing withdrawal. I've only been out ONCE this year. And that was only a day trip in the GoM out of Mexico Beach, FL.
Oh well, the SoA is only a month away. Maybe I can survive until then. I had to cancel my SoA trip last year because my stepson had the bright idea of scheduling his wedding in the middle of my fishing trip. They didn't waste any time on the honeymoon either; they just had a baby boy two weeks ago.
I'm not missing this trip. Even if I die between now and then, I want to be cremated and you can scatter my ashes at Alijos. And I'll probably vote Democrat. ;D
GA Mike
A wedding is a better excuse than a major infection though Mike. The smoke and a big order at work has been keeping me off the water this year.

At least the "big order at work" is a good thing. The fires and smoke, not so much. Stay safe my friend. We'll wet a line together soon (I hope).
Mike
the SOA trip is still on. i'll be making phone calls really quick here.
