Aiala and Jerseymic,
I made your plinths this afternoon.

GORGEOUS, Mr. Shark!! That plinth will display my purple/silver 4/0 like something out of a jewelry store... THANK YOU SO MUCH! :D
~A~
Beautiful work, Daron!
Best,
Fred
Great work mate.
I think you may find some orders coming in after posting those beauties! ;) ;D
Post photos when you get it set up Aiala. Dominick
Stunning work Daron, a lot more beautiful than my lump of wood!!
Mike.
Luv em Daron. How do you bend the perspex without crazing or cracking?
Nice work Daron. Great way to display that " special " reel!

A propane torch. You just have to go slow or they will bubble up.
Very nice Daron! With the large variations in Acrylic colors available the possibilities are endless. If you end up making a lot of these they make electric heating elements specifically for bending acrylic, we use them for signs all the time. It may save you some propane ;)
Yea,
We make sinks to test each batch. If there are any flaws, we make bath tubs and stretch it thinner.
Do you work for a sign company?
Yes sir, Tech. Designer doing engineering and fabrication drawings, 9 years in the business. I may build one of these for myself if you don't mind :)
You are probably one of our Customers. I've been at the same acrylic Factory now for 27 years.
That's awesome, congrats on the long time work place, that seems to be unheard of these days.
Aiala,
Your Plinth is Leaving Kentucky Tomorrow to Palm Springs. Its 11 Degrees here tonight. You might have to warm it up a tad. Enjoy it!
Mike, I'm not happy with yours and am going to redo it. It was nice and level until I added the 12/0. It is sagging a little on the back end. I haven't made any of these for a while.
3/8" Acrylic can hold up a 12 lb 14/0 without any issues. Besides, I want to make you another for your 9/0 too. The simple bend of the thicker material allows me to fit two in the same box.
Good Luck to you on your hectic week and my Best wishes to Jan. ;)

Thank you Daron, there is no hurry, whenever you have the time.
And thank you also for your thoughts for Jan, it be nice for her when today is over.
The only two good days this week will be Saturday, (if I get to work on my reels as planned) and Sunday my birthday (just beer, food and merriment) yo! ho! ho! and a bottle of rum ;D
Take care my friend
Mike.

Not a problem, it's 84° outside. I'll enjoy it immensely, I promise. I'll post pics as soon as my 4/0 is mounted. ;)

Rather than starting a new thread I figured I'd add some more Plinth ideas here...We have a ton of scrap metal at the shop, so I sheared some of it and break-formed a few different ideas, so far these two are mounted up...still need to sand and paint them but you get the idea. Thanks to Daron for starting the idea with bending up the acrylic ;D

Good Job Dan!
Nice. Dominick
Nice work Dan - particularly like the angled version.
Cheers for sharing, Justin
It arrived! Here is my silver-and-purple Senator 113H displayed on Mr. Shark's fabulous plinth:

I can't envision a more appropriate and stylish addition to my décor... Thank you so much, Daron! You are the plinth MAN! :D
~A~
Glad you like it. My Pleasure. ;D
Looks awesome! That reel is quite the looker!
Nice looking reel. I have been considering de iating from my typical black or black n gold color scheme on my next personal jigmaster build. I was thinking purple and white, or purple and silver. Seeing this one, kinda solidifies my thoughts.
Dan, Dan, the Plinth Man.
All these reels look too pretty to fish.
Thanks for the photo Aiala. Beautiful reel. I also like your choice of books. Have you gotten into Michael Connelly and the Harry Bosch series? Amazon just got through making a series for streaming which starts Friday. Dominick

Dom, I've read everything by Connelly, including Bosch and the Lincoln Lawyer books. Good stuff, if something less than serious lit. ;)
I've watched the Amazon pilot twice, already have the show programmed into my DVR. Not crazy about Titus Welliver as Harry, but will reserve judgement for now. :)

I think a gold-plated or gold anodized plith would be most appropriate for that International. Or maybe wood to match the older handles?

When I saw your selection, I knew you were up on my man Harry. I am going to watch the pilot on Friday. Any chance you are going to be in the bay area around March 15, 2015? Dominick

Afraid not, Dom. Actually, I seldom leave the desert (LR fishing the notable exception.) I have a very elderly dad who's closing in on one hundred years old, so I don't really like to stray too far.
Meantime, I'll bet your pig feast is going to be something else! Are you really going to sleep next to Sal?? :D

I don't collect reels and may never do so, but have to say that these plinth are very nice!

You know Italians...They are lovers, not fighters. :D
Plinth......Prior to reading this thread never before heard the word used in my life..... My education continues.....
It is more of a European thing. Our Buddy, Jerseymic from across the pond used the term a year or so back and it spread. That reminds me. I need to get his plinths off to Cornwall!
Origin of PLINTH ;)
Latin plinthus, from Greek plinthos
First Known Use: 1601
Full Definition of PLINTH
1
a : the lowest member of a base : sub base
b : a block upon which the mouldings of an architrave or trim are stopped at the bottom
2
: a usually square block serving as a base; broadly : any of various bases or lower parts
3
: a course of stones forming a continuous foundation or base course

Just one word buddy, WOW!!
I had better give the reels a special polish before they are mounted on those beauties.
Thank you again.
Mike.
Seems to me we have invented a new adjective - plinthy - which describes a reel so lovely it deserves a place on a plinth.
Chris,
The reels may be lovely, but Darons plinths are exceptional :P
Daron
That is some very nice work Buddy. If I ever get old enough to retire my 540 3.2 it would look cool sitting on one of those Plinths. I have a red 631 that would look good on one now and sitting on the stand under the TV.

I've got to agree ;D
Mike,
Your plinths are finally on their way to Cornwall. I apologize for the wait, but I knew they had to be perfect. I did what I can do. Enjoy them my friend. ;)

Thank you Daron, there is no need to apologize, perfection is always worth waiting for.
I feel honoured and very grateful that you have done this for me.
As soon as they arrive, my reels will be mounted on their steeds!
Take care buddy,
Mike.
Now we have to ask ourselves a new question!
As Elaine used to say on Seinfeld.
Is this reel............ plinth worthy? ;D
