Title: Makaira 10 noise
Post by: WC_Mike on January 11, 2019, 11:52:05 PM
I am currently working on a makira 10 that I feel is a bit too noisy. Nothing like a Newell but slightly louder than my Penn fathom. Do the makaira make any sound when cranking?

I suspect that the right side plate bearing is going bad. It does have some axial play but I don't know if it's within the acceptable range.

Thanks for your input!

Sounds like the issue I was having with my mak 15. The dog spring/dog is engaged and that was the issue with my reel. Took it to Okuma and they replaced dog spring/dog and no more noise.

I think I read your post about that issue. I cranked the reel without the spool, just the pinion in place and it still makes the same sound so that rules out the dog spring issue
The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards worn out rsp bearing

It could be, perhaps Okuma will send you a replacement? Contact them, they have been top notch with addressing a few issues I had with my maks.
