Title: EXW30 first time tear down
Post by: Tgr23 on March 22, 2019, 07:26:29 PM
I just picked up two EXW30's and would like to pull them apart for a cleaning.  These are my first Avets.  I've read the grease/no grease threads.  I couldn't find a teardown/cleaning tutorial on these reels so I'm wondering if there is any specific advice.  Any special tools needed for these?  Can i follow a EXW50 tutorial?

Thanks!

An EX50 tutorial will help considerably. I believe the one difference between the two reels (other than size) is the placement of the spring washers on the spool. On the 30, they are free floating on the spool next to the pinion (end house) bearing. On the 50 they are between the pinion gears and the right side spool bearing. These are very simple reels to service if you have any experience doing off shore reels at all.

Thank you!  This is the first offshore reel I'll be working on.  I've done my Penn Fathom reel, some new Diawa's, older Penns, Abu Garcia.  I assume that's enough to get me started on these.  Hoping I won't come across any surprises.
