Title: Looking for help to ID my Pro Gear reel
Post by: fishbait on May 27, 2019, 07:32:52 PM
My good friend has a vintage Pro Gear that he wants to sell but we are hard pressed to find the correct model. He bought it used years ago and recalls it being sold as a 440. But we are still unsure because it looks like a narrow spool with a high gear ratio. Its spooled with 40# and looks like at least 300 yards.

Really appreciate it if anyone would help me identify this reel correctly so I know what I'm selling.

Thanks,
Ed

That's an original 454.

Welcome fishbait. The inside width of a Pro Gear 454 is about 1 7/8" between the frame flanges. A 440 is about the same width as a Penn 113H.

Firstly, thanks for the welcome!. Glad to meet you guys.
The inner distance between the spool is indeed 1 7/8". That's awesome that it is identified as a 454.
Thanks guys!

The later ones came out with the "454" engraved and also the jack was changed. Clean reel you have there.

I see. That explains the (non) engraving. Amazing how this reel is essentially a glorified Penn 4/0. Heck, now I may want to buy it.
Thanks for that.

Parts are readily available as they are Penn 113H parts. Some has gone as crazy as:

-Stainless gears, pinions, yoke
-Double dog bridge
-Low gears
-5 stack drags or 7, not sure
-Ceramic bearings
-Alan Tani large knob
-Adam's drag system

And many more!
