Title: Anyone bringing a slow putch jig set up on the October trip?
Post by: Tom McKinney on August 15, 2022, 07:36:57 PM
I have been reading a bit about slow pitch jigging and was thinking about buying a set up and giving it a try on the Otober trip. Anybody else on thebtrip that ia familiar with the technique?

I brought one on the July 3 day trip but was strongly advised by all the deckhands to NOT use it on BFT. I didnt use it but I did get 2 BFT on my 100# setup on a 400 gram jig.

It definitely is doable SPJ for tuna/yellowtail.  The only concern I have is holding the parabolic rod over and under 23 guys.  It would be nice to SPJ on a private boat.  I own a few SPJ outfits and only use them for bottom fishing thus far.  May try to go BF fishing on my friend's boat before our trip.  Will let u know how it's like.
