This will be the second of two bluefin trips on the spirit of adventure. the guys on the july trip last year get first crack at spots for this year. i will be sending out emails to everyone later this afternoon. the trip will run with 24 again. the total cost for the boat alone is $28,750, not including tip, fuel surcharges, licenses or processing. divided 24 ways, the cost for the boat alone is $1198. adding a 17% tip comes out to $1400, so that is what i will be charging for this trip.
emails will go out later this afternoon. i will need to hear back from all of you within a week and get a 50% $700 deposit check soon after. a deposit for this trip needs to be sent in by february 1st. thanks! alan

Yes.
Assuming the catch is within legal limits, the processing fees for ALL your fish may then, in hindsight, bring cause to question the wisdom of keeping it ALL...

$1.85 per LB. Be advised when targeting those triple digit bluefin out there lol. A nice round 60#er is my sweet spot.
60-80 is mine.
Anyone need nighttime jigging bite leaders for this trip?
I can make you a couple with all terminal tackle except hooks....
The leader setup is:
3-400# swivel double crimped, 3' 300# mono, solid ring double crimped to a 400# split ring
Let me know if you need a couple
Pj
Quote from: Keta on June 02, 2023, 09:13:51 PM60-80 is mine.
hell, twist my arm then, I'll take an 80 or even a 90#er :D
The trip is less than 2 weeks away so I'm gonna start prepping my gear over the next few days.
Today I'll be making jigging bite leaders if anyone needs a couple just let me know...
Tuna jigs connection hardware reconfigured:
AFW 411 lb swivel -> (Owner #10 split + Owner #9 solid)-> knife jig (400g-450g) -> Owner #10 split -> Owner #9 solid.

Assist hooks are Charkbait 10/0 3X VMC #8382...and yes, they work night jigging. The bottom one got a BFT on last year's July SOA 3-day.
Will attach ESCA light right before 1st drop...
Broke my hand last Saturday in 4 places. regretably the incident has forced me off the trip this year. Wait I mean i broke my hand in four places last saturday. I will toast to your success. Hope its as good as the June trip.

Bummer David! I was looking forward to fishing with ya!
Six fish trip limit 333 lbs. farmed and gave away the rest.
What worked: 40 lb. Test flyline fluorocarbon leader,
420 g. Knife jigs
80 lb. Test sinker rigs (12-16 oz.)
Small hooks,
This was under less than ideal conditions, windy, semi choppy swells, fast drift, all contributing to heavy
Jig selection. Oops! I meant this for the June trip, sorry . Well this might help the July trippers! Take care of yourself, David, and get well soon!
Way to go Warren!
You are still my hero Warren.
Lee, I was there when you landed that 330 pound bluefin, and then artfully yelled for an hour at five star to get your belly pieces from them. Talk about hero's.
:)
Warren,
Did you go with Mario's again?
Quote from: Porthos on June 24, 2023, 02:37:40 PMWarren,

No Mario's this time. Easy to text Fishermans processing for reservations. They're the best.
Edit: I may go with Mario's again this time around as I have just been informed by Fishermans processing I am not guaranteed same day service.

Now I just hope Alan assigns me spots where these will all fit!
Yesterday was yesterday, today is today and tomorrow who knows, so take this with a healthy dose of sodium, as we wrapped up my RP 8 day last week. You might find this helpful or at least a starting point, who knows. We spent Weds and Thursday targeting bluefin. In no particular order:
There were two "areas" of bluefin - one outside of San Clemente (that a lot of boats were targeting) and one down off of Ensenada/Rosarita about 35 miles from Point Loma that the long rangers were targeting (too far to go up to Clemente).
All of our fish were night fish. Every one of them was caught on either a heavy jig or an Eddy Bomb, and all of the schools we ran across were from 240'-300' (Needless to say, metered or marked line is extremely beneficial). Some hit on the sink, some hit on the wind. Everything that boated was in the 80-100# class. The success rate was good, but for the most part everyone was adequately armed as I am sure you all will be. On the daylight schools, we were "Oh for Oh". Good luck everyone go get 'em! - john
Making a few extra jig leaders!
Hope you guys get into them. Mick and I will need intel for our trip on the Vagabond that leaves on the following Sunday, 7/9. Good luck and fair seas!
I'm driving down Sunday as well. I'm staying at the Sea Harbor in as well. Not sure what tackle shops I'll hit along the way! See you at Miguel's!
T-minus 48 hours until departure!
PJ, Capt. Evan was using a jigging rod last trip. Could you get me the model/ mfr of it and the reel he was using? I think the reel was some kind of Avet Raptor.

Jig Jiggity! I can't wait to get on the road tomorrow morning!

Hitting the road soon, c u you guys in San Diego!
