Title: What do I have? Stainless hi-speed gear set
Post by: JRD on August 23, 2016, 02:21:15 AM
These are hanging out in a box of jigmaster part from years ago and I've forgotten what they are and where I got them.  Same diameter as Penn 500 gears, finer tooth pattern and finer pinion tooth pattern than stock Jigmaster gears.  As you can see there is an approximately 1/8 shoulder making them deeper than the Penn gears.  Help!

The gear set on the right are from Newell 200/300/400 fishing reels.  They will also work on Penn 501/506 reels.  The will not work on Penn 500/505 reels because of the extra height of the main gear would rub against the sideplate.

Thank you for the quick info.  Do you know off hand if the fit in accuplates?  I may have to start a new reel build around this gear set.

Bryan, don't you mean it will fit 505/506 not 500/501??

You might want to check if your pinion gear fits on a penn 500/501 spool, I think Newell made some 4.8:1 sets to fit the 500/501 jigmasters. Also, I think the Newell 200/300/400 main gears will need a penn high speed pinion to work in the 505/506 reels? (Bryan will know for sure). As for fitting in accuplates - I'm out of town for a couple of days but will check on the weekend, pretty sure they do but I'm not 100%.

Rudy is right.  Sorry, I mixed up the numbers.

I think I need to retire so that my work information does not push out the much needed reel information. :)

Sorry, I do not.  Only way is to test fit them.

Took longer than I thought.  They do not fit in the 3/0 or 500 accuplates.  Also they don't hold a 5 stack since the ear channel is not cut all the way down you end up with an eared washer on top.  The 501 spool shaft with the pinion bearing just fine.  So back in the box-o-parts they go for another 10 years.

They will fit in a Newell 200/300/400 and Penn 505/506.  Those are Newell gears.

Also my 5-stack drag kit will fit in those gears.

Bryan, I got a few sets of your 5-stack but since the ear washer channel doesnt go to the bottom they have to go in keyed washer, keyed washer, eared washer, keyed washer, eared washer so I believe you lose a bit since the eared washers are only working against two keyed washers, not three.  Its no matter though cuz the accuplates got your drag stack in a jigmaster steel gear and the newels will just sit until I find the right project for them.

BTW - thank you for quick shipping and the products you put out!!!!!  I have two 112h's that Im putting together so look for a further order from me.
