Got a Penn LB 68 and found a snapped-off screw on onea the frame posts. About 2/3 was stuck in the post and someone glued the other top section into the side-plate to make it look good(blue stuff on the screw head in the picture). An eBay seller trick?
Darn!, get a new post? Nothin to lose here, so try a no-"easy-out" way, and see... started with a 5/64" drill, got alla way through the screw shaft, then finished with a 3/32". Musta damaged the threads, right?, ...NO! Cleaned out great. The spare screw went in easy and tight. Used a punch to knock-out the glued-in screw head from the plate. Had to hit it kinda hard. Bakelite is some tuff plastic——no damage.

Go buy a lottery ticket!
MegaMillions is $345M tonight. That will buy whatever you want, for whomever you want, forever.
Dave gets as much fishing boat as he thinks we will need, crewed.

Dominick, when is the trip again?
::)
Its a well though out and executed plan and best of all, like all well planned events results were 100% as expected!
Score! Good job...Bill
good save G
Sometimes what looks like an easy fix turns into a major event...while the impossible job becomes a cinch...all in a day's reel maintenance! ;D Watcha gonna do with that big ol' 68?
I love LB's and wanted a line-winder reel--- put-on/take-off line for temp. storage(spool cleaning) and use as an "under pressure"braid winder-on'ner. The 68 has the slow gears (2.5:1)---bad, but is easy to service/modify and has great line capacity. Also this perticular 68 had the 24-56 penn power handle(me like!) with a cool 113H size butterscotch knob.
Be interesting to see if I can duplicate that fix. Went slow, used oil and moved the drill back and forth abuncha times. Maybe just lucky?

I can tell you from experience it works great for that...I use one too G! Just don't do like poor Joe and crank the drag down too tight. Sorry Joe!
At first those 2.5:1 gears sound so slow...but remember...that's a tall spool on that 68. It takes up more inches per turn than you'd think. 8)
Nice save, Greg !
dope! you learn everyday
1 in 100 ! Good job!
Cheers:

Awesome save Gfish! You have a much steadier hand than I! If is was me instead of a cool reel you would be seeing pictures of broken drill bits and ruined post :D - john
