My Sx/R failed after the same trip last year, 25lb line, just figuring the bearings are the same in both reels, I might just spool up the ex30

This Kershaw #1945 Barge knife is a tank.

Don't know why Kershaw discontinued it.

With a short Tanto blade with lots of backbone, one handed opening and closing, locking blade, and the big thing for me —- a built in solid and strong pry-bar.

I can tell you how many knives have been ruined , broken, or bent by using them as a quick pry-bar —- all of them!

This is a beast.

Best, Fred

I got one Damascus in my display case.I never heard of them until I was in the collecting faze.I got one just cause.Once you feel a kershaw spring assist its hard to beat, they stay sharp & the one hand opening is what sold me on it for EDC.Its as fast as a switch blade .

Daiwa Tutorials and Questions / Daiwa Saltist left Side Plate
Last post by chris_w - April 21, 2025, 04:54:33 PM
Hi there

Anyone know where I can get a replacement Daiwa left Side Plate new or used? I believe, this side plate is common for many of the older silver Saltist reels.

Thanks for any help

Hi there

I'm in need of a silver Daiwa Saltist 40T side plate.  I believe this side plate is common for many of the older silver Saltist reels.  Hoping someone has a "parts" reel laying around.

Thanks

Been recently looking at Damascus steel knives, but came to the conclusion that for now, these are not a statement I need to be making on a "carrying" basis since "utility" is the primary objective at < 1/4 of a Damascus' cost.

Yup.

Tying or splicing a loop in the hollow and tying a loop in the solid then connecting them with a double or triple catspaw is how a wind-on is used. Wind-ons are used for big fish.

Loop to loop with a cats paw is also how a lot of boats replace braid on the kite set-ups. It's a proven technique

Thanks for the advice, I don't think I've adjusted the preset drag in anything other than freespool, but interesting thought if you think the bearing may get crushed. The new bearing will have metal shields as opposed to rubber seals, so wonder if this will make it anymore resilient! Will have to see when I receive it and take it to my accurate man, although I think most of his experience is with accurate boss extreme reels which is why I'm reaching out!
