Title: Blackfish Season (Tautog)
Post by: johnachak on September 30, 2014, 06:22:12 PM
Due to Super Storm Sandy, many boats and vehicles in general ended up in our back bays and channel. The state contracted out a "Cleanup". Unfortunately, the "Cleanup" also removed many of our small wrecks (Scuttled on purpose for fishing structure), old trucks etc. that were many years old and covered by growth. Most of our favorite inshore pieces are now gone. We (Us local fishermen) think the contractor must've been paid by the piece Just opinion of course). On top of this, the Army corps of Engineers dredged our inlet. In fact they are just finishing up. I think this is going to be a tough season for us.

Fishing can bring a lot of money to local economies.  Many of our counties, as well as the State of Florida have reef building programs.
