Title: Slow Pitch Jigging for Cod
Post by: ksong on August 28, 2017, 06:07:27 PM
Squidding technique has been used for cod jigging for decades.
Squidding is simple. You just crank steadily for 10 - 15 cranks and drop to the bottom again if you don't get hit by cod.
On the recent cod trip, I experimented slow pitch jigging using the light Black Hole Challenger Bank 691UL/IRT 300 combo with 8 oz JIGNPOP flat hammered diamond jig.
I had at least 6 nice cod on slow pitch jigging. Some were caught up high after I turned the handle about 10 times .
I got to test slow pitch jigging for cod on upcoming trips more.

That's about the best way there is to catch pollack too but sometimes they are a lot higher in the water.
Where are you getting the cod from? I know it has to be below the 42 degree line but was wondering which port you are going out of.

We went out from Chatham, Cape Cod.
Pollack is good fighter, but cod fishermen don't have much interest in catching pollack. :)
