Title: Torium 14 Problem
Post by: Murphyslaw on October 11, 2011, 11:41:25 PM
I have a used Torium 14 that I picked up on Ebay.

When the drag is set heavier, I feel and hear a grinding sound when reeling putting moderate inward pressure on the reel handle towards the reel body. The grind is not full 360 degrees of the turn. At most 90 degrees.

No grind if I don't put any inward pressure. And the grind lessens as I decrease drag.

Any ideas at what's wrong? I don't want to crack the reel open at this point, as I may return to seller.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Bearings. Your pinion bearing is shot.

Hey Murph:  Don't send it back.  Email through ebay and ask for a discount to replace the bearings mentioned above.  Tell the seller the reel was not as described and you are going to give him a bad feedback unless he makes it right.  He should go for it and you will have fun getting your hands greasy.  Dominick

Thanks for the help guys.

I was going to tinker with this anyways, so I'll see if seller will refund some money.
