Title: Beastmaster 50/80 help
Post by: Sarge1980 on May 02, 2019, 04:14:07 AM
I've got this old classic that a customer is hoping I can fix. I'll post the pictures of as I removed the drag. I've checked the schematic and can't really work out what is missing except for the drag washer. What else do I need to add and what dimensions to get the reel working. Is there meant to be a screw on plate to retain the pressure plate in the spool assembly? Fair bit of cleanup to do before I can fix it.

Help appreciated, regards Brad.

Hi and welcome Brad,
These are great reels - I have the 30/50 and 50/80 (and have fixed this issue on both).
Unfortunately, the silicon pressure washer (ie 'clutch pad') has 'melted' over time - the remnants of which is the residue in the photos.
I found acetone to be the best at breaking down the silicon and getting it out of the bearings etc.
John did are great rundown of the process and parts required here:
This one I did some years ago:
Let us know if you run into any difficulties.
All the best, Justin

Thanks for your help mate. Might wander out to the bench shortly and continue on this one.  :)
