Title: New Pro Gear Reels - Violator Series
Post by: pangamaster on March 15, 2018, 11:43:45 PM
Hey Guys,
I have a Pro Gear V 50 and the bearings are bad.  Has anyone rebuilt one of these?  Any idea on which bearings will go in it?  I tried the standard Newel 300 / Penn Jigmaster size and they were a hair small.  This is a great reel that casts a mile.  I see they don't even make the V 50 anymore and the company website is pretty lame.  http://www.progearreel.com/  Like they don't even list the basic capacities of their reels?  I wonder if they are still in active business?  I did shoot them an email and will see if they respond.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Dave

they are likely metric and readily available.

I think your reel holds about 360 yards of 30 lb. monofillament line and has a 5.2 to 1 gear ratio.

Sorry can't help with the bearing sizes but if you have access to a set of calipers you can measure them. To order new bearings the measurements you are looking for are ID, OD and width. Most here go with a stainless steel bearing.

We discussed a little about whats happening with PG here.

Ahh cool info.  Kind of as I expected.  I really like the reel ...it's a great Surface Iron / Yo Yo reel for yellowtail.  I'll measure the bearing ...or if I get lazy I'll just send it to Alan for an overhaul :)

Even a cheap set of calipers will be good enough  for reel work - it's hard to measure anything without them particularly bearing sizes. Just remember most of the reel world (outside the US) is metric not imperial ;)

If possible buy some calipers.  Import stuff is generally inexpensive,  6 inch size will cover most every thing.  Most digital calipers are metric and fractional.  There's all kinds of stuff to use them on.     You will be glad you did.   You can even help your friends. :D
