Title: Shimano Catala 400
Post by: FishDad on May 23, 2017, 07:04:41 PM
Has anyone ever done a tutorial on a Shimano Catala 400? I was recently given one by a buddy who said he was tired of it....said it had a "skip" in it when reeling, & has had the "skip" since it came outta the box. I have tested it, & can feel what he is talking about, but cannot figure out what is wrong. I have disassembled, cleaned, lubed & reassembled, but still the same issue. It's not anything that seems to affect proper operation, but just very annoying after a while.

I would be closely examining all parts of the level wind assembly, particularly the nylon gears on the left side that drive the level wind off the spool.

BTW boon, I forgot to ask something. Do you know if the Catala 400 is just a cheaper version of the Calcutta? If not, what is the difference? I've never owned either 'til my bud gave me the Catala.

more like older version of Cardiff...  generally, Malaysian affordability VS. better Japanese workmanship, quality control, materials, tight tolerances
