They are marked 200 but I think they're for the 400 cause the long clutch or jack lever

If they are double dogs on a round bridge plate they are for 500 series reels. Nice score!!!!

I called to check to see if they had a part that I was looking for...and they didn't.  But they said that they had gotten a bunch of what appears to be new parts that could have been in a reel and taken apart.  New and unused, but quite possibly assembled.  And he also stated that parts have been going fast as well.

I know...if I had the cash, I would have called them to make a deal on all of it.

I called yesterday too Bryan. The parts have to be picked up in the store. They did not want to ship.

Sounds like we need an agent in the area to purchase the parts and ship them out.

They said someone close to the company is finally getting rid of his "stash". If you want something let me know, I'll ship it to you guys. This is what I saw yesterday

1. 1 complete reel, not sure maybe a 533
2. 3 or so 533 frames (shown in picture)
3. 3 200 complete bridge w/ handles ( pic)
4. 50 or so assorted handles.
6. 2 bare bridge (marked 200-400)
7. 2 double dogged (no gears)
8. 2 bridge plates w/ gears. Single dog I think.

The parts did not come from Valley. A longrange fisherman traded in his stashed parts for some reels and most of it got bought last night. Still some 200 bridge assemblies left.

Hamachi,

Thank you very much for your offer to ship, That was really nice of you. I just got off the phone with Sav-On and talked with an employee who had no problem shipping the items to me but sadly someone came in yesterday and purchased a lot of the parts. I was able to score on 3 complete bridge assemblies with gears but no handles or stars, some 200 and 300 side plate rings and 3 aluminum clamps. There are other parts still left but from my phone conversation it was tough to tell exactly what reel they were for. Again, thank you for posting and your offer to ship.

Frank

Yeah, I spoke to Joey I think, he said they ship but someone else said no? Sorry for any misinformation I relayed, but I knew some of you guys would be interested in these items. I myself have 5 newells but have never experienced any real problems, guess I don't fish them hard enough, to warrant buying a bunch of extra parts that I may or may not need in the future. I'll probably regret that decision though. Maybe another wave of parts will come through. By the way, I'm looking for a front crossbar for a 641, it had a screw broken off in it when I bought it new, years ago. Kind of buggered it up trying to get it out of there. Been fishing it that way, still waiting for it to tear apart. 3 inches exactly. Thanks, Warren

Hamachi, No misinformation at all. I didn't get the guys name yesterday but when I asked if they will ship the parts he told me I have to come down to the store to get them. I said that would be kind of tough because I live in Connecticut and he stated "Sorry but they have to be picked up".
It was Joe that I spoke to today. Very helpful, nice guy and my parts are on the way

Gregg Chow went by there today and he a lot of what he saw in bridges were aftermarkets by some body and on original Newell parts. Buyer beware. Gregg did not get anything for me or himself.

Sorry Newell Nut but I'm having a hard time deciphering your post. Are you stating that the bridges are aftermarket and the rest of the parts are Newell?

It was late and I missed a few key strokes. Aftermarket parts and not original Newell parts.

Too bad I didn't post my parts on here before selling most of it.  I had tons of bridges, gear sleeves, 4.6, 5.5 gear sets, 6 finger aluminum stars, 6 finger P series stars, handles, side plates, bases, frames, V521 kits, etc.  No one has gotten a hold of the containers from valley.  Keith and Mace has no intentions on ever selling that stuff again for some odd reason.

To bad they shut down. In the short time they owned the Newell brand the quality of the parts increased immensely.

I went to sav-on tackle today for a surf fishing seminar. They still have one s533 nib $239.99 looks like the long screws that go all the way through the frame with rivets on the left side. Saw a few frames, handles and bridges left. Call for pricing and shipping. (562)864-2911 web search for hours. Usually 8am-7pm m-f saturday open until 6 and 5 on Sunday. They do ship!

Im looking for 229 parts.  I cannot figure out why the spool is scraping the rings...maybe its a warped spool and maybe its a warped frame or just maybe its my warped mind  :o.

I always pick it up at the end of the night so maybe my brain is too tired to think clearly. I might need to get a tib frame ti see if that fixes the problem.
Title: Re: New old stock Newell parts
Post by: peesherman on February 21, 2014, 08:35:17 AM
Highly doubt its a warped spool.  Do the inner rings lay flat?
Title: Re: New old stock Newell parts
Post by: Frank on February 21, 2014, 11:16:01 AM
As peesherman stated it could be the inner rings. I have also seen a racked graphite frame in the past. It was the base causing the problem not the crossbars. Did everything go back together without having to apply force to get the inner ring holes to line up with the base and bars?

If the spool is just scraping slightly you can find the spot by applying a light coat of lipstick to the spool edges, reassemble the reel, rotate the spool and look to see where the lipstick has marked the inner rings. Then hit the lipstick marked spot on the inner ring with some sandpaper.

Bryan,

Sometimes I find the left side rubbing is the clicker, when the right side bearing cap is all the way tight. When I try to adjust left to right, they're too loose to leave in a different position. The clicker rubbing mimics spool rub, and can be remedied by filing down the back of the clicker behind the c-clip. It's a long shot, just trying to help.

Hi Bryan, what drag kit would you recommend for my 338F? Taking it apart now to see what stack config is presently uses...
Also is there a Tiburon frame for this model? Would like to get a set of lower gears as well since I believe this one has the 5.1 gears.

Depending the drag numbers you need, I would recommend Penn's Jigmaster 3 stack HT-100 set or if you need more, I have a kit that will bring your drag stack for 5+1, including metal washers.  I have tested these for 24# of running across the park with pole in hand.  Others have tested these at higher numbers...I just haven't because 24# is more than enough for that size reel.  PM me if you are interested in a kit.

The tib frame is the same one for the jigmaster 500.  I think the model is P20.

Okay, I got up this morning, and took the day off.  Pull out the P-229 and placed the spool in my drill to spin it...lo and behold...warped spool.  Unless I can find a new spool at a decent price, this will become a parts reel...I'm maintaining 4 additional Newells (P220 and P229), at least he can have one failure  LOL...

So you warped a P series 229 aluminum spool. Bryan, you are a beast. ;D Could it have happened testing your drag washers?

Received my parts from Sav-On-Tackle today. All items are genuine Newell. Some in original Glendale packaging. Sav-On even threw in extra drag washers and two 1 oz. tubs of Cal's drag grease! Great folks to deal with.

Congrats. You got 3 bridge assemblies, correct? Were these all NOS or used? Did the top of the bridge sleeves use circlips or a screw to tighten them down? If circlips were used did they have the fixed ss washer at the bottom? Were the main gears recessed underneath or flat? What other parts did you get?

Congrats. You got 3 bridge assemblies, correct? Correct. Were these all NOS or used?  NOS. No signs of wear, No signs of ever being installed or removed from a reel. No marks on metal drag washers and no shiny spots on the dogs from rotating on the gear sleeve. Did the top of the bridge sleeves use circlips or a screw to tighten them down? Two have circlips and one has the screw. If circlips were used did they have the fixed ss washer at the bottom? No, I wish!!! Were the main gears recessed underneath or flat? Flat. What other parts did you get? Four sets of 300 series inner rings and and reel clamps ((2 SC-15 and one SC-20).

I just wish I was there when the parts first went up for sale. I wonder if any early P sleeves and gears were in the mix?

Did you end up getting anything?

So, from what you know, the parts Sav-On was selling were all OEM Newell parts and not aftermarket, correct?

I don't know any company out there producing aftermarket newell parts anyways besides those 5:1 gears, aftermarket star drags and bearing caps along with the tiburon spools and frames.  No company out there is producing aftermarket bridge plates, sleeves, SS clicker kits, free spool jacks, etc.
